Protip: forgo the club for burial chambers, just use your torch. It does bludgeoning damage as well as fire damage, both of which are effective against skeletons, and it provieds light both from the torch itself and the skeletons which are lit on fire. ALSO: I always plant a campfire in the entry room of a burial chamber, it provides light, the rested buff, allows you to cook food, and helps you heal faster.

Couple things to add: -There is always a raspberry bush and a couple of mushrooms behind the forsaken stones. Grab them when you spawn for instant food -I typically rush towards the coast and start gathering flint right away so I can completely bypass the stone axe and craft a dagger. -You can use your club to knock down saplings quicker than your fists. Same goes for the greyling you found at the start. You can use your torch to kill him quickly as it is a club. To be fair I farmed silver for the Frostner before I got the wishbone and used the lvl1 Frostner to kill the Bonemass Searching for water and instantly building the flint axe is the best way.

One point to consider. If you rush down the first boss, you'll never get raided by an army of meadows creatures. I'm serious having 20 boars attack your base can give you some pretty useful mats early in the game. The faster you can get boar leather the faster you can get an lvl 3 workbench and the faster you can get lvl 3 items and then the game gets so much easier for you.

When you start mining Copper and are still too weak to take on Greydwarf packs comfortably, explore along the divides between Meadows and Black Forest. These are often lengthy and straight, and you will very often find Copper deposits that are literally just a few feet away from Meadows. When you mine, the sound of your pickaxe radiates out in a 360-degree circle. If you're mining deeper in the Black Forest, the sound can attract Greydwarves from several different directions which can be perilous. If you're mining a deposit right on the border of Meadows, half of your pick sound will be radiating into Meadows which, at worst, will attract Greylings which are much easier to handle. Also, if you are overwhelmed and have to to flee while mining deeper in Black Forest, you can run straight into more packs of Greydwarves or even a Troll. If you're on the border of Meadows, you can flee into Meadows which is much safer. If you're exploring in Black Forest and you spot a Burial Chambers (with attendant Skellies) close to a 'pink fire' Greydwarf spawner, it's worth running close to one to aggro the monsters around it, then run to the other. Greydwarves and Skellies hate each other so passionately they'll usually break off attacking you to fight each other. You can stand by watching, dealing with the already-damaged stragglers once the massed fight is over, then pick up all the loot while having to do very little fighting for it. Or, if the Skellies win (which they usually do), you can lead the survivors to the nearby Greydwarf spawner. As the Skellies engage whichever Greydwarves have spawned in the interim, you can destroy the spawner and claim the Ancient Seed it drops. Again, mop up the stragglers and collect the loot with minimal fighting.
@SadisticSenpai613 жыл бұрын
I always build a wood fence around the copper deposit so I don't have to deal with the greydwarves while I mine. I also build a temp campsite with a workbench and a forge so I don't have to constantly leave to repair my pickax. I've weathered "forest is moving" events without even popping my head outside the fence. I just go around and repair the walls every now and then. They've never gotten close to getting through. Trolls are a different matter ofc. Gotta deal with a troll.

Nice guide. I have a couple of additions to it, especially for the early game: 1. Pick a spot near the spawn point for early base - you will need to return here for the rest of the game anyhow to mount the boss heads 2. After picking up 6 wood by either picking branches or bare-fisting suplings - make a club, and harvest the first batch of wood with a club - this way you clear the area, get wood and train clubs at the same time. 3. Shoot the first scores of arrows at a stone/tree near your base. At bow level 20 - you will use it quite better 4. Early copper is attainable by baiting a troll to hit a copper deposit (which is fairly easy) and early bronze - by leading a troll to the water and baiting it to hit a tin deposit (quite harder, but doable) - making Eikthir optional, and leading to the next 5. By sparing Eikthir - instead of pesky gray dwarfs - you will get nightly food deliveries to your doorstep by his courtesy, in form of neks and bores throughout the bronze age... 6. After finding 10 surtling cores instead of going to home base - fill you pockets with tin, and after getting a full stack - find a copper spot. Unload all resources into chests, dig around the copper node as deep as it goes, and please the smelter inside the pit and load it with the tin - it will worm buff you during the copper mining, you will have tin ready as soon as the copper is mined, and the 30 tin batch will enable bringing 30 bronze home, instead of 60 copper, while being safe in the mining pit
@InfernosReaper Жыл бұрын
I don't get why do the club first when the stone axe isn't too much more on resources, even if it is going into the dumpster when the flint axe is obtained(if it can be gained before then, even better) Being able to cut down trees seems more important early on for getting bases situated quickly. That said, I do personally tend to use the club until the swamps, skipping the bronze mace entirely,

Hoes are one of the most insanely broken items in the game. Level terrain can make swamp adventures trivial and raise terrain can make mountain adventures safe. Leaches lurk in shallow puddles (you know the ones that always slow you down when fleeing from draugher elites and get you killed). Just hoe-as-you-go and keep a level path to safety nearby. When I find an area in the mountains that I want to spend time at (like by a silver vein), I raise terrain a few times and make a small area to retreat to when the sun sets and the 2 star wolves prowl in packs.

One tip: Lure the trolls to break down the Pine trees for early core wood, and Birch trees for early fine wood. It is possible to get a fine wood bow before first boss, big improvement over crude bow and not that hard if you can kite them with a little patience. Those can be made without a workbench up! :) Helps keep things tidy. Come back later for the stone, if u need... Oh, and flatten ground around hole when done, to remove falling hazard of a deep hole. Maybe re-use it as greydwarf trap or troll kiting arena. ;)

Great starter tips and tips that if most of us knew ahead of time would also have saved a lot of time as well. A few more. 1. Pick up everything you come across. It will have a use if later if not immediately. 2. When going into any Burial Chambers or Crypts ALWAYS take 5 Stones and 1-3 pieces of Wood to make a Camp Fire 🔥. You can drop it anywhere in common area inside dungeon so you can get Health & Stamina Regen buff. 3. Learn in the beginning how to make and properly setup your Trunks for Storage and in the that bigger house you make. You will thank yourself later way down the road for storage inventory management. You can set more Trunks in a row with the short side facing you side by side by side vs the long side next to the wall. It’s a huge space saver. 4. When Mining Copper, put down a Campfire 🔥 in the middle of area to stay warm and rested buffed.

If you drop a few campfires around eigthyr I think you'll recover stamina a bit faster, stamina is the only issue I've ever had fighting him - not a worry about dying, just it takes longer. If you get multiple hard deer antlers, make multiple pick axes. They don't have much durability. Also, sunken ships on the shorelines of the black forest can be destroyed for fine wood, as can the benches that you noted at the elder rune. That can be a quick way to jump a few days ahead on a finewood bow, etc. There is a 3rd burial chamber type - some are built into low mounds like a barrow. Listen for crows in the forest, they are an indication of a burial chamber or an elder rune. Also if you explore at night, you'll often hear skeletons and other creatures fighting each other to give you cues to where burial chambers are. If you can get extra surtling cores, once you start exploring you'll want 1-2 portals set up in your base with an easy to remember name (I usually just do E1 & E2). When you are exploring you carry 2 cores and 20 fine wood in your pack, and whenever you get full up or get to a stopping place put up a portal and head home.

The benifit of this is that once you are underneath the copper node you get the "shelter" buff. With the shelter buff and a fire nearby you will get the "resting" status while mining and that will give a huge bonus to stamina regen. Also some campfires nearby can help keep nosey grey dwarves away so you can focus on mining.

You can make a Finewood Bow very early. To get the Core Wood go to the Black Forest and fell 3 pines. You only need 1 but 3 will yield enough wood for two upgrades for the bow. To get the Fine Wood: fell trees next to Birch or Oak trees and roll logs into their trunks until they fall. Then roll thier logs into other trees or logs until they break. You need to add a Chopping Block in your base to make it. If you have the wood and also add a Drying Rack you can even upgrade the bow to level 3. This makes the first boss trivial and makes Troll kiting much faster. For Burial Chambers: you can use the Stagbreaker through closed doors due to its AOE. Open a door, whack the floor with Stagbreaker to aggro mobs. Step back out, then shut door in front of you as they rush to it. Use Stagbreaker right by the door until the mobs behind are dead.

Nice video and some very good tips. A few things I found to be helpful as well. 1. Eikthyr and trolls are great at deforesting. If kiting them, they will help clear out some of the trees in the area. Even the tough ones you can't cut down with the stone axe, like the birch. 2. When in a dungeon, to avoid getting lost and make sure you explore everywhere, use the rule of right (or left). Basically only make right or left turns as you will explore the entire dungeon eventually this way. 3. Sap can be found by cutting down some trees and bushes. Keep it up. It's a fun game with loads of possibilities and exploration options.

I will add that you should always create a small house by the starting point stones for fast returns and to eventually set up a portal so friends that join you don’t necessarily have to trek long distances to meet up
@InfernosReaper Жыл бұрын
God yes to that. I've hated having to trek long distances to get to the base of friends early on. I don't know how they feel about me sneaking in portal materials and wood, but I do so anyway to just to build a spawn portal shack. Plus, it helps when a rest point is destroyed and then you're killed before you can reset your spawn and get stuck back at the start point.

@Captain8283 жыл бұрын
Great guide! I was surprised to see you didn't prioritize the flint axe over the club or stone axe. Was there a reason for that? It's the best option for both chopping and single melee damage in the early game. I would personally skip over the no-star boars and would just mention looking out for 1 and 2-star boars for breeding. The no-star boars are just not worth it IMO compared to how easy it is to get meat by hunting deer with a bow in the early game. They are also hardly worth the trouble of the 20 raspberries you had to pick up for them to tame and didn't even finish taming by the time you were done with the guide. I would instead mention prioritizing to get a finewood bow as early as possible as this can greatly speed up hunting and killing mobs safely. After you get the crude bow you only need to hunt one deer, take down one or two birch trees, and a single pine tree. Taking down birch trees can be easily done using trolls or fallen beech trees at this stage. The finewood bow is also flatter shooting than the crude bow which helps a lot with hunting at long range and for bird hunting. I would also better clarify that for the fire arrows, to get enough resin quickly, you should chop down the small beech saplings or farm greydwarves. I also think more focus should have been placed on the rested buff.
@TheTangyapple2 жыл бұрын
This is all good advice. But worth mentioning that you can only chop birch and oak (finewood) with a bronze axe or better, so finewood usually comes after bronze unless you use a troll

I honestly think beating Eikthyr with a bow is quite bothersome. You can just craft the wood shield and parry it for days. I didn't even see the lightning attacks cause I was always too close to it. Parrying is king in this game as it staggers enemies when timed correctly, so I recommend start practicing it as soon as you can (ie parry that greydwarf that spanws close to you with your bare fists!)

Also so far my best starter strategy includes making only one temporary base near water and black forest to start with and to serve as a starting point for scouting missions, then while scouting looking for, not abandoned houses to start my base, but abandoned villages. Often i find one or two small villages near the start but occasionally you find a larger one. If close to the beginning there’s less chance of it being occupied by draugr but if done right even early game you can kill some draugr be keeping range and using bow (run as fast as you can if there are draugr elites or archers!!) once cleansed (often i clear one house out place a workbench inside and close the door quick and place a fire and bed for respawn), you have a ready made village often with a fairly elaborate hall or larger longhouse to start with and plenty of materials nearby. Especially if you luck out and find one near water and black forest

I'd like to add that the flint spear is actually a really good weapon for the early game. Solid damage output against hostile mobs, with practice you can consistently hit deer from range with it's secondary attack, and a level 2 flint spear can be used to kill trolls, as they are weak to piercing attacks. That way you don't have to kill as many deer, which can be a pain to hunt sometimes, and can start with decent armor for the early/mid game

People actually sleep through the night? I thought it was just youtubers doing that so the vids aren't dark. My suggestion: Shoot every bird you see. Here's a super useful tip for troll caves, burial chambers and sunken crypts (in the swamp). You can place a fire and gain rested as well as the increased health regen from resting buff, not to be confused with rested buff, which is a weaker, longer lasting version of the resting buff that lasts longer based on the comfort level. Also, be aware that weight DOES have a negative effect on your cart's movement speed. Loading too much ore, stone, or other heavy things will eventually prevent you from moving the cart!

They made the mushrooms much more visible through the vegetation in the new updates. I haven't needed to turn the vegetation down and I've got more mushrooms than I can eat rn. I always build a fence around a copper deposit and build a little temp base there - a workbench, forge, fire, and bed. That way, I don't need to constantly run back and forth to repair my stuff and I've got a spawn site right there. I'll often sleep through the nights cuz it gets too hard to see at times. The wooden fence is more than sufficient to keep the greydwarves from bothering me - I've withstood plenty of "forest is moving" events without stepping foot outside or doing anything to fend them off. They don't tend to stand up to trolls as well ofc. And I usually make roads freaking everywhere for my cart (and so I don't get lost - which does happen on new maps before you learn the area). I'm really hoping they add a new cart that lox can pull in a future update.

I know this might be a silly one but when I first started I didn’t know anything so I had to learn everything the hard way and a few HUGE tips that will save you a lot of heartache is just being prepared. Ok so when ever I find something to mine or I wanna start venturing out to the unknown. I’ll make sure what food I’m bringing is maxed out, I’ll bring 100 wood with me and yes it weighs you down but if you found a copper vein or you’ve gotten yourself far out and it’s going to be dark soon I just find a prefab house (the falling apart houses) slap a workbench down and first truing I do is put a door on. Then use the hammer to repair everything. Clear out the area decently and use whatever wood it takes to build a small pointed fence in a big square around the hut. THEN I’ll slightly expand the house so I can put a quick chimney in and start a fire and build a bed and a couple of crates and around the time you’ll see why I said to build the fence as a mob of everything and anything are now trying to smash down you’re fence. If you have that hammer thing made from bone I forget the name of it but it smashes on the ground and deals a lot of damage. Sometimes one shots skeletons. Anyway you can use it threw the fence on everything in the game pretty much. So keep the hammer beside that and go to work but be sure to occasionally pull out your hammer and quickly repair everything then go back to smashing.

#1 hint: always, and always, have your rest buff, you can get it easily by sitting in front of a fire for a little while, even better if there's shelter. Rested seems to double your skill advancement, which is a huge deal in the early game. Also it just might save you if you happen to be cold and wet at the same time 2: in the very beginning, use your club to break down baby trees, and every mob. Clubs skill will be incredibly useful later in the game 3: You can often dig up ship graves using just a hoe, leveling from the lowest spot. It's generally not too deep

It's funny running into this today after starting a new character yesterday. Great job with the quick advance process! The only thing I'm doing different is farming wood for arrows until my bow skill is around 80 before fighting the first boss (at 73 now). Not because it's necessary, but just because at that point in bow skill it becomes much easier to kill things because the draw time is greatly reduced. I read a while back they're thinking of or planning to nerf the bows. I hope they don't. One thing they need to keep in mind is that using a bow consumes materials unlike other weapons. So yes, the damage is high from bows, but you have to constantly farm wood and other materials to make your arrows so it increases the grind quite a bit. That's a fair trade off in my opinion and I really hope they consider that before nerfing them.
