An update has now been posted that fixes and rebalances several issues: - Rags and bandages can now be cleaned at running water sources. - Generators now work for underground areas, as well as higher levels of elevation. - You now need 5.0L of milk to make butter, previously this was 0.5L. Still useful with no skill requirements, but not as broken as previously. - Stones picked up and used as weapons have now been nerfed. - Sharpness of axes now reduces when used on trees, not just combat. - Shotguns now provide exp per shot, not per pellet :( Sad days for firearms enjoyers. There's a LOT more in the patch, but I'll try to keep this relevant to things mentioned in the video and will likely add more to this message.

The butter recipe will probably be adjusted at some point. Turning 1 liter of milk (which has 640 calories in reality) into two sticks of butter with 3200 calories each is pretty broken. It requiring 5L of milk instead of 500mL makes more sense and would still be plenty.

Build 42 CDDA survivor here, so far survived 100 days, making a youtube series about it. I have 7 more tips for you guys I learned so far: 1) You can level up Carpentry fast. You need only a plank, hammer and a crowbar. This will allow you to add and remove barricades. Repeating this process with skill books vol 1 and 2 I reached level 4 in 1 in game day 2) You can level up Welding fast. You need the set to use the propane tourch + a Metal Sheet. Similarly to Carpentry, you can barricade a window and then remove the metal sheet to level up fast welding. It took me also 1 day to reach level 4 with the first 2 skill books, the only downside to this one is that I used 2 full propane tanks to achieve this result. 3) If you didn't see the option to fill up your propane torch. There can be 2 reasons for this: the first is that refiling require a light source similar to reading books, the second that you need to see right click the propane tank instead of the tourch to see the option 4) If you want to do things in the dark but don't have electricity yet, use your car lights 5) Loot belts from zeds, you can use cutting item like a knife or scissors to obtain leather strips from them, that are the best bandages and patches for you clothes in the game. Plus belts are always clean allowing you to obtain 2 strips from each belt 6) When zombie climb over the fences or windows, use a stomp followed by a swing of your melee weapon. This will allow you to attack the next enemy in the line if multiple are jumping over the fence. I literally defended my base after the helicopter event from over 600 zombies using a window and this trick 7) There are windows that lead above the roof, usually this spot can be used to funnel zombies and deal with them using the fence trick in case your base is overrun and if you are overrun on the roof you can push them down, saved my run in CDDA

Another very important tip, now holding the interract key (E) picks up zombie bodies. Be careful if you are clearing a group of zombies with the fence strategy, becauase if you hold E by accident even a little bit longer while jumping over a fence and there are bodies around, it can pick a body instead and lock you in the animation and be the end of you. Streamer/KZbinr Insym had a pretty great run over the span of multiple streams, he cleared almost the whole town of Ekron with 200% zombie population and this happened to him. For 7 days he never even got hit or scratched by a zombie, then when he almost cleared Ekron, he got locked in the animation by accident while trying to jump over the fence and ended his run. It was such an infuriating moment since he had no idea this is a new feature and there is no way atm to change the bind key.

I think they should've just kept it as a right click thing. It has gotten me killed as well.
@toreadoress
@toreadoress 12 күн бұрын
@Bananamanmk53-yv2ph I agree, considering that's how always has been and you still can do it by right click, so no need to bind it to the interaction key. At least they should've bind it on a different key so something like this doesn't happen by accident, even if you know about the new function, in moments where you are focused on surviving, it's easy to hold the button just a moment longer and lock you in. It's something that can only screw you, instead of being useful.
@RemyJustice97
@RemyJustice97 12 күн бұрын
@@toreadoress I'd be okay with them leaving it bound to the interaction key if they added some kind of oversight to prevent players from doing exactly that; like, if there's a live zombie within 5 (or however many), corpses cannot be carried using the interaction key. if the player absolutely must carry that corpse in this condition, they can still right click and select carry
@toreadoress
@toreadoress 12 күн бұрын
@@RemyJustice97 yes that would be fine, but I imagine that would require much more work and time spent implementing and testing it than moving the bind key to let's say holding F or Z. The thing is, in the key binding options, there is a specific tab for this and is set on "none" by default and even if you change it to different key, it still picks up the bodies with the interact key and doesn't change it, which I assume is a bug at the current version and most likely they'll fix that in the future, but as for now just have to be very careful.

aside from the handiknife there are a few other items that can save inventory space, there is a P38 can opener which can fit on your keyring, along with a keyring bottle opener. A whistle can be used to attract the attention of zombies, it also fits on your keyring. There is also a compass (though being isometric I don't know how useful it is, but that also fits on your keyring. I forget the name of it because i got killed shortly after finding it but there is a firelighter (graphite maybe?) which also fits on the keyring. While you can only fit so many keys and things in your keyring you can access the keys and items from multiple keyrings as long as the keyrings are in your main inventory they will be accessible like an equipped bag. If you catch a very large fish and it is so large that even the fillets won't fit in an oven or fridge, if the fillet is on the ground or somewhere in range of your character, you can use a frying pan or roasting pan (and possibly other cooking pots and such) to make meals from the uncooked fillet.

Honestly my biggest tip for someone would be to play on custom sandbox mode. Go through the settings and adjusting how they want their game to be. I understand people will play default and judge it based off of that. But I think this game shines when you can change the gameplay mechanics you don't enjoy, like muscle pain for me.
@eliseosterbrink8000
@eliseosterbrink8000 13 күн бұрын
Yes! A lot of people complain a lot about simple settings they can change in the vanilla sandbox settings. Some things that have to be changed by mods (i.e. cleaning bandages from any water source, climbing ladders, adding/fixing recipes) are much more understandable... but you also have to remember that this is an unstable public beta that still needs a lot of work done to it before it becomes an actual release. Considering those two things, I think that what we've gotten so far is pretty fun and more immersive than build 41. A lot of the more annoying changes can be easily fixed with sandbox settings. In my opinion, there's a lot more to love than hate with build 42.

@@user-wi9hv2pb2q I'd disagree. Why hate on a game trying to provide so many customizable options so everyone can chose to play the game they want. I love the New skills and grinding away. And for mods: 41 had Tons of Mods too? It seems like the Devs looked at them and even implemented some to the base game, so they are obsolete now. And the Update is labelled unstable for a reason too. The recent Update already showed that some of the mods for 42 are fixes we get for permanent fixes we get along the way. You can turn off so many of the changes in sandbox, it almost seems like being able to play 41 and just add on to it. I jumped into apocalypse-default 42 to test it and got a lot of Joy from the run - until I died on day 12 of course xD - but switched back to sandbox for my own personal preferences. I think 42 simply Supports even more playstyles and the use of sandbox is Not a Bad Thing in my opinion. :)

@@K3nn4rD-S I use cat eyes and turn the night to "Bright" and that generally works well for outdoors. The real problem is interiors. They're dark to an absurd degree. Humans do need a little light, but not that much. And even in pitch dark humans have their sense of touch, hearing, smell, balance, all of which inform their understanding of what's in a few feet of them. That means even when you "gamify" total darkness it's inexcusable that the game character can be trapped between a door and a zombie yet the player can see neither.

I'd recommend new players to just take the Strong trait since strength is more emphasized now and was already extremely impactful before b42. Older players still do the high fitness lower strength, but then you train strength, min-max, but it's way more punishing to attempt now and is advised to steer clear of as a new player. Also, Day 1 is by far the hardest critical moment of a playthrough overall right now. So don't feel surprised when you fight 60 zombies day 1, you may even need to walk around zombies for a couple hours just to recover muscle fatigue. Running and sitting somewhere safe when tired, before you even get to loot a single house won't be abnormal. But the game is way easier after that.

As I walk along the road to town (even if I have a car, it's good to take a walk every once in a while), I get so much clay. Guess it never occurred to me that paved roads wouldn't have clay chunks visible in them, and most people would probably stay in town for a while.

In my first test playthrough, I was doing very well. I got a backpack from the spawn house, it had some canned food, I even managed to make three sandwiches with the food from the neighboring house! I killed some zombies, and noticed the new key system and chose a cool keychain hahah There was a car key on the keychain, and it wasn't difficult to find the car, it was very close by. I was out of gas. I ran a little and found some cars, one of them had a jerry can, I thought. It's my moment. I went to check the cars with gas. and one of them had! And to my surprise, I discovered that now you need a HOSE to remove the fuel. I was so frustrated, I headed back to my spawn, and got bitten while killing another zed. `That's how I died.

One of my favorite small additions for build 42 is the flyers/brochures. It was so hard for me to justify going anywhere besides a big city before within a roleplay situation- because who would randomly know where the C.G.E. Corp. building or random farmhouses are? The flyers and whatnot are fun, immersive ways to give yourself a reason to go to unique locations, and I think PZ was missing that in build 41. So glad they added them!

I just make sure to leave house keys in some kind of cabinet in the houses they belong to, and for car keys I've set it to leaving them in the ignition since it's single player, so no-one will accidentally steal them. A few things on this list don't actually work in the currently publically available B42 - pillows on Good beds will reduce them to just Average at the moment, a few of the books give the wrong skill boost, for example. Also a few things will very likely be changing soon, like butter production (increasing from 0.5l per stick of butter to 5l per) and aiming seems to get an overhaul again. But all in all a very solid list with some great tips that are sure to help a lot of players! Thanks for sharing!

Another way to get around the Keys system for vehicles is either: 1-Weightless Keys mod. 2-to leave them in the ignition so you don't lose them but just disconnect the car battery if you're afraid of depleting it while the keys are in the vehicle. Most times if I get a fully working vehicle or multiples, I drive it close to base or at a fenced parking lot, leave the keys in the ignition, pop the hood and dump the battery on the floor so it won't run down and then siphon the gas out to move around with if I need it. I my current game, I got a Day 1 generator and set it up at the gas station in town ready for power outage and refilled it from the pumps. I parked every movable vehicle I could find in town at the station's fenced yard, filled each gas tank entirely and did the key and battery trick above. Now I have a working fleet depending on my needs for looting/roaming and enough gas supplies to last quite a while.

Build 42 is gonna be pretty cool. Can't wait for it to be finished. There's some bugs and stuff that I've been encountering that's kinda hindered my play a little bit. Like, I think multi-hit is bugged or something, or maybe the aim outline is, because I would often be holding a crowbar, and 2 zombies in front of me are highlighted red (meaning that I can land a hit on both of them with my crowbar), and I swing, and I totally miss one of the zombies. This has caused my death twice now, and idk if it's actually a bug or some new thing they put in the game or what, but it's making me change how I play, which is a little annoying but game's still fun.

A small addition to Tip 34: Best way to level from Level Zero to Level 1 in Carpentry is: building a Log Wall or Cutting down the Logs into boards. Yes it takes some time but honestly: You'll need the boards anyway. As for electrics: You can't get any XP from dismantling digital watches anymore. Yes, you still get the items, but there won't be any XP. Instead look around for anything electrical in the house: TV Remote, Hair dryer, headsets, phones, radios or TV. You only need a screwdriver and can get to work.
@MrAtomicDuck
@MrAtomicDuck 14 күн бұрын
You do still gain exp from dismantling watches. It's 0.5 exp per watch. That much I do know because I tested and recorded it for this video. Very possible that there's a level cap on this however, which may be why you're only seeing exp gain from larger items?
@hitn-gaming
@hitn-gaming 14 күн бұрын
@@MrAtomicDuck It could be possible that there is a cap when you start with the level 3 electrical profession. Will test it out when my next char dies (soo.... soon-ish? :D ) and come back with a result. Also, fun fact: It's never a good idea to use tree branches as starting weapons. Yeah, they have quite an impact, but muscle strain will build up with 2 hits...

there is one new really useful feature that you haven't covered: you can now enter some cars, like large step-vans, smaller vans like an ambulance, or a rancher (a car similar to a jeep), through the trunk. This is very useful when you find a car with locked doors but an open trunk. You can simply open the trunk of such a car, then press the Z button (by default) and select a seat, and your character will get into the locked car. It's also worth mentioning that originally in the first patches of build 42 you could enter large step-vans like that, but in patch 42.0.2 something broke and I could no longer enter such cars (at least the last time i was playing). I think the devs will fix this issue soon, so the mechanic itself is still very useful

Sometimes I feel so stupid in PZ that I laugh out loud. The other Day I had week old character and some loot luck with really good gear. It was nearly the end of the ingame Day and I wanted to loot the last house but the Alarm went off so I quickly Run 2 houses back and slept there for the night Next morning I went to that Alarm house again and couldn't see any Zombies around, it was quiet and merely forget the house Alarm from the Day before, sure the whole house was torn apart but no Zombie was to be seen so I climbed through the sheeded window and oh my god the whole house was Full to the brim with Zeds. I immediately stumbeld inside a very large group got scratched and grapped but not bitten yet, out of the window I went but immediately tripped again and the zeds were pooring out the window like water. It took only 2 or 3 Seconds to tear me completly apart. I was stunned for 4 Seconds and than had to lol of how stupid I was and how funny it looked. This is how I died

I have another tip and a hint for new players who starts in Echo Creek: Tip first: You can rename bags in Build 42 so you can have two garbag bags with you, one for FOOD and one for MATERIALS (MATS). If you loot a house, throw both down on the ground. You can then quickly sort the loot into the bags, grab them both from the floor and have a little bit of pre-sorting done. That's especially useful as you can grab your FOOD bag from the car and bring everything in one go into your base. And the Hint: If you're a new player: The main street from the gas station in Echo Creek leads to the shooting range when you follow it to the left (not over the bridge). DO NOT GO THERE WHEN YOU'RE A NEW CHAR OR A BEGINNER. There are way to many zombies around that place. You'll have a hell of a time fighting with the muscle strain and broken weapons due to low conditions. Use the time instead to loot Echo Creek properly and travel to the right side or travel downwards. I spent days going back to the base and come back with new stuff only to be screwed up by more zombies.
@herpderp9108
@herpderp9108 13 күн бұрын
I'm doing exactly that in my current playthrough. I don't have too many weapons but I've been veeeeeery slowly picking them off one or two at a time by getting their attention and pushing and stomping them to death in an effort to keep my weapons as long as possible. I've finally (after about 3 in game weeks) been able to fight my way into the parking lot area only to find just as many inside as I killed outside. I've been falling back to the little house with the chicken coops right around the corner, but with not much food, it's been tedious. I even accidentally forgot to go back to my gas station base to keep my generator running and all my meat went bad. Good thing there's a farm on the way back with some sheep and rabbits. But yeah, now my new mission is to clear the parking lot areas. Here's to hoping it continues to go smoothly.

Some of the armor you find like sports equipment prevents you from putting a backpack on. Also, putting on a bulletproof vest prevents you from wearing a leather coat, which could leave your arms and thighs susceptible to damage and bites easier. If you chose short sighted as a negative, wearing a motorcycle helmet and other types of full-headed armor will force you to take the glasses off, making your vision blurry again. Not a bad idea to carry a second set of prescription glasses in your backpack in case a zombie or a bad vault over a fence makes them fall off.
