There is a Wimpy near Liverpool, in a place we call Birkenhead which is over the water. We normally ask them for passports when they come through the worlds first underwater tunnel that was built under an estuary. However, now that there is a Wimpy and knowing that Birkenhead is still dwelling in the 80's-90's I'm inclined to take a journey over there to see if I can get a Freddo for 10p along with some 10p Space Raiders. As a South African, we grew up with Wimpy. BUT, I think they can do so much better, if they only move into the more fast-food direction. With that I mean, the model of McDonalds. Yep, Wimpy was a goofy character on the Popeye cartoon. J. Wellington Wimpy. I remember it when I was a kid. He was always trying to borrow money from people for hamburgers. His catchphrase was, "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today". Wimpy was established in 1934 in Bloomington Indiana in the United States by Edward Gold. It was originally called Wimpy Grills. But it's current headquarters is in South Africa, and it has restaurants in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Egypt, and Kuwait. But looking at what they serve, I can see them becoming popular in the United States these days. We already have some similar fast food restaurants.

Back in the 80s in our teenage years we would jump on the train on a Saturday morning and travel 30 minutes just for a Wimpy. The sauce on the burgers was amazing and never been beaten. Shame there's not so many Wimpys left now.

I had a wimpy not too long ago, and I don't know why it isn't as big as BK or Mcd in the UK, as its bloody awesome ! Defo on par with these guys flavour and quality wise easily !

My last meal out before lockdown in March 2020 was a Wimpy - halfpounder with cheese and chips and a diet coke. Literally my favourite burger joint and, like you say, well worth the little bit of extra money to get it served to you at your table, on a plate, with cutlery. Then there's the taste... 😘

yeh i think wimpy was named after him as the popeye cartoons were popular in the 1950s and the comic was before that i think and wimpy did love his hamburgers.
