50 year old Jonsereds 621 at work

What started as an accidental acquisition of a random ancient saw 5 years ago is turning into a bit of an obsession with these big heavy beautifully solid Scandinavian saws.
Its probably twice the weight of a similar powered modern saw but for an occasional user like me that weight smooths out my lack of experience and is probably the only reason i haven't caught a chain with my teeth.... yet.
I've read the perceived torque is down to the small drive sprocket which you could retrofit onto most saws but all i know is i can jam the bar up at part throttle, open her up and itll pull through anything.

These are very good, well built saws that were well ahead of their time. I am just in the process of rebuilding the carb on one that I found recently. I have an old Jonny Red 90 as well, insane compression! I have a few old saws, but Jonsereds are my favourites. Thanks for the vid on the pull start repair as well, my Jonsered 535 has that issue, that said I bought it new in Yorkshire in 1987 and it was my only saw for many years. I now am working on a 20 acre forested site in BC, Canada...just finishing off building a house. Best Wishes and stay safe!

Sounds amazing, 20 acre play ground is a bit of a win for a man that likes old saws! 90 must be a beast, I have an 801 but I've still not found the parts I need to get it running, no rush, I'm just glad I found one.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 Yes, the property had not been logged for many years, really a lot of the trees were not in good shape they were too close together and very tall and thin (some were 120 feet high), tricky felling them as some got hung up and tops broke off while being felled. Still a lot of work to be done to encourage fresh growth and better biodiversity. Up here we have Douglas Fir, Aspen, Birch, Spruce, Balsam Fir for the majority. It sounds pretty sweet for such old saw! I don't know what your laws are but we are certainly allowed cut a tree if it is within a certain distance of a building and I would advise anyone not to leave large trees near their house

There are some protected species and some are listed because they are special and if you have bats nearby you are not allowed to sneeze but this is Lincolnshire, and normally in those instances night time tractor accidents or mysterious diseases occur.

Arbsite is an excellent website for asking questions like that, lots of jonsereds collectors, someone will know of an alternative part no. All the mid size saws of the day used the tillotsen hs.

I have the same saw...what bar and chain setup are you using? I was having trouble finding one that would work

18" bar for a husqvarna 61, studs on the jony are bigger so I had to file the slot out then a 67 drive link chain, the 68 works but leaves a big gap between the drive sprocket and bar which gets stuffed with chips. Proper quality usable saw, nice if you don't mind the weight.

Oh yeah...I use 40:1 synthetic oil in 91 octane petrol on my older saws.

Sounds sensible, castor/synth oil for mine mainly because it smells amazing, anything but mineral oil.

The Livestream is still up, but this is a different saw. The big 801 needs parts, the points I can get new from the original manufacturer in Italy but the primary coil is not available on any continent so I'll have to get creative!

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I couldn't see it when I looked, seemed it had been deleted. Are you sure the primary is faulty? It should only read a few ohms at most.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I can see it now. The other thing is the secondary has a resistance of between 8 and 15K. The other thing is to make sure the connections are good. Chap on a stream last night cleaned the contacts on a coil and got ignition after that.

@@BensWorkshop I'm not sure but I'm only getting a fairly intermittent 1-1.5 ohm and the core's laminations have separated slightly with corrosion between them. I've asked in a couple of forums for the specific figures and availability of spares but no sensible response yet.
