On September 11, 1973, a civilian-military coup violently interrupted democracy in Chile. This tragic event deeply marked our country to this day and was known throughout the world. This year marks five decades since the bombing of La Moneda and all the tragic events that occurred during the 17 years of dictatorship.
As members of the Chilean documentary sector, we firmly believe in democracy and fully trust that storytelling illuminates our country's path. Documentaries are not only a reflection of a historical moment, a nation or a territory; they are also a source of identity, memory and wisdom, to continue building a future where freedom, respect for human rights, healthy coexistence and justice reign.
We talked about this with five Chilean documentary filmmakers who stand out for their courage and willingness to enlighten us with stories that not only Chile, but the whole world should know.
Our special thanks to them: Carmen Castillo, Marilú Mallet, Patricio Guzmán, Pedro Chaskel, and Ignacio Agüero.
