A Vietnam veteran who was forced to leave his baby daughter behind at the end of the Vietnam War said he felt "destiny fulfilled" after she tracked him down more than 50 years later and asked him to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. Bob Andron, 77, was legally married to Linda Throng's mom, Lin, between January 1970 and January 1971, when he lived in Vietnam. A sergeant with the United States Air Force, Bob was an English specialist and an English language instructor, improving airmen’s use of the language. But after a year of service, Bob said he was forced to leave and had no way of keeping in contact with Lin, given that he didn't have her Vietnamese last name when he left for the United States. For decades, Bob wondered what became of Lin and his child, understanding that it would be up to them to find him if they were ever to meet. Then, one day in May 2021, Bob received a phone call from a genealogist, Kristee Mays, who specializes in reuniting veterans with lost biological family members. Linda, 51, had since moved to the United States via the Philippines, and in searching for Linda's American father, Kristee had matched Bob's family name to a birth certificate. The pair were later able to meet in person, in a moment that received an outpouring of love on social media when it was shared by Bob's son, Lee Andron, who captured an emotional video of his dad and Linda's first embrace. Over the years that followed, Linda and Bob stayed in touch, with Linda asking Bob if he would walk her down the aisle at her wedding, which took place on December 30, 2023, in Katy, Texas, near where she now lives. Bob said he was thrilled to be asked, and the moment provided a feeling of fulfilling his destiny, he added.

Do they have a marriage license? It probably just war time romance and sex. He never bothered to look for a baby to pay for her growing up cost.

@@llw2606 I don't think they have a marriage license. Not sure if during war time they even thought about "marriage" and the responsibilities that accompany it.

Could it be due to the fall of Saigon?

@@llw2606 , shut up, troll. He genuinely loved his wife, but it happened because of the fall of Saigon, or because his wife was a casualty of war, which would make things even more disheartening, and Linda got put into an orphanage.

Some people just don't know where to start. There would have been a lot of red tape involved that would hinder the search and to make matters worse, half Vietnamese children are treated very poorly because their Fathers were Americans. Many of these children would be misplaced, lost to the system. How do you know he hasn't bothered, have you asked him or did you just assumed?

If I was married and my wife was 6 months pregnant I would have at least had a paper with her full name, address, and any other information I would need to find her if we were separated. I would have tried to get her at least out of there and to Thailand, that would have been possible I think. Something just doesn’t make sense.

Sweet. But I missed something. Where was his wife when she was born? U.S. or Vietnam? Did he not see his wife again? Why didn't he go back to where she was? I'll watch it again and pay attention.

There's an element to this that should be addressed, given that his wife was 6 months pregnant when he left. That's 50 years of inaction. Did the mother die during childbirth? So many of us will try to understand why it took 50 years. *EDIT:* According to part one, he couldn't find her because he didn't know her Vietnamese last name.

Looking for your biological father or mother is never part of the Vietnamese culture or tradition. The society consider that you betray your adopted family that look after you all your life and treat you like their own children especially your mum, uncle, relatives etc. so what do you all think ? beside the father doesnt really care either. who is this person ?
