50 Years Of ITV Idents

As a child, I was so happy to see the LWT ident after 7pm on a Friday. This signified the weekend had arrived and no school for the next two days!! :)

The great thing about the ITV regions, was how they celebrated each region's heritage and culture. Not like it is now!

As an American who grew up watching British TV on PBS - this was a weirdly wonderful walk down memory lane. Some of these I remember (London Weekend Television, one of the Thames ones, one from Yorkshire Televison, ATV) others I recognize the names but not the logos (Meridian, Carlton), and some I don't know at all, but this is still cool!

Can I offer another viewpoint on the music? Because it post-dates all the idents featured, it fits equally with all the idents. Bear in mind that these idents go right from 1955 to the 2000s, and it takes something outside that period to do them equal justice. And I like the way the 'pause' in the track coincided with the 'still' idents - i.e. Border/Granada/Yorkshire.

You know what would be cool. In 2015 ITV will be in their 60th year. What they should do is run their old idents for the year. This would include running the old idents from whatever region your from (So if your in London they could use the old Thames/Carlton idents during the week and use LWT at the weekend, etc). I remember last year UTV ran their old idents as they were 40 years old cause that's the region I'm in.

I can kind of understand why this tune was chosen because it is like the songs says do your thing and every region of the ITV set up did do there own thing with there own ident depending where you lived is what ident you had so yes do your thing like basement jaxx is saying this song is spot on in what it is trying to tell people

ITV seem to be almost ashamed of the regional companies structure it once had. It would have been good to see a few old idents as part of the 60th Birthday celebrations - but nothing apart from "ITV changed my life"!
