Only Yorkshire Television could give us so much anticipation and excitement. This version and the original start up theme could give that sense of pride and emotion. Why can’t we have start ups like these again?.

That was the beautiful thing about ITV, all of the stations were local. None of them were from London; well, except for Thames and LWT, of course. We luckily still have local stations with different identities here in the States, though even here the charm and uniqueness of each station has diminished over the years. PBS has even been pushing their affiliates to ditch their local identities entirely, many of whom have sadly obliged.

Unfortunately, we cannot. There are always gonna be some people asking for a clean version and who just wanna get absorbed in the whole spaciousness and sophistication of the piece. I once downloaded a clean stereo version (including a quiet count-in) from meldrum.co.uk but now I have lost it. Even the version on SoundCloud has a voiceover, thereby justifying the need for a clean no-voiceover version.

YTV was one of the few stations where the authority announcement was done live by the duty announcer...not all startups have Redvers if he wasn't on that day. They would have sat in the booth waiting for the exact point in the music they had to make the announcement and knew they could not cock it up when it was a legal requirement. At least respect them enough to listen to them.
@markwrightrf3 жыл бұрын
One of my all time favourites and in a sort of epiphany moment, and without wanting to sound too pretentious, I think the composer wanted to encompass all of the things you might see on YTV - there's drama, playful comedy, romance, current affairs style moments in this composition. Until 3:55 - not sure YTV ever broadcast anything with this type of XXX funky soundtrack ;-)

As a Yorkshire lad I always thought we were very lucky to live in God’s Own County and to have the uk’s best independent local TV network on our doorstep. The YTV Chevron was probably the most recognisable logo in the land. Plain, simple and straight to the point with no buggering about which is the Yorkshire Way of doing things. Some people say it was a scary logo but I never saw it like that. The ATV logo was the stuff of nightmares. Imagine going to bed after Crossroads and shutting your eyes to find the ATV logo coming to get you it was well scary. Who can forget the 321 YTV ident that came to life and went through the opening titles of 321 like magic?.

The problem lay in the fact that the area served by Belmont transmitter (mainly Lincolnshire) received Anglia until 1974, at which point the governing body of ITV switched it to Yorkshire. The area was perfectly happy with Anglia but the powers that be deemed otherwise. I think over the years YTV won the county over (despite the name) and certainly developed better regional news coverage than Anglia ever had.

yellobelly Thank You Yellobelly! It is a pity that as from October 22nd 2007 [Thanks to Sir Micheal Grade] The ITV Local News Service is reduced from 15 Regions to 8 Regions. With One Regional News Service [Here in the South] Instead of 3 and NO Regional News Service in Plymouth! Which now comes from Bristol! PS Did Yorkshire TV invent Calender Countdown in September 1982,before it"s Network showing on Channel Four in November 1982? GOD BLESS and Thanks.

I don"t know about you I miss the old Regional ITV [which ended on 22nd October 2009] Here in the south, [Thanks to Sir Micheal Grade are Regional News programme has news from The New Forest [where I live to Kent.
