Just read Meryl's bio and it seems she had a hellish time at Yale. Successful, but hellish. One of her acting tutors was so determined to see her fail that he blocked her from attending rehearsals for a play for a long time. She finally got to attend rehearsals and when the play opened, she was a huge success. She used to interact with audience members - in character- at the curtain call, and the jealous drama tutor told her to stop it as it was distracting. So, the next night's performance, she was doing her curtain call and pretended to have a heart attack - in character - and die.
