By the way, I'm planning to publish a video on the transmission rebuild on December 3rd. Thanks again to the Power Driven Diesel Team for the collaboration, and I'm hoping to collaborate with the PDD team again!!

That experience clearly paid off in making Todd's engine more powerful but not TOO powerful. You won't know what's safe unless you destroy something or somebody else does it for you. Car manufacturers clearly don't want to tell you their engines are not pushing max power, so tuners are the ones who do it.

I'm not into diesels, but you guys seem like the dream team when it comes to knowing just how to make an engine and transmission better. You made Todd's truck not only more powerful, but also more fuel efficient and cleaner and more reliable. Most people only focus on one of those, not all at once. They want power, but sacrifice reliability or fuel efficiency. Or they want reliability by detuning the engine. Or they flat out get rid of mufflers and emission controls as a cheap way to get more power instead of keeping those in place and actually improving the engine itself. The irony is that, at least in a modern fuel injected gas engine, having the engine have more complete burns with higher compression is the exact method car manufacturers have gotten engines to push so much power while reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency.

@SonicBoone56
@SonicBoone56 9 ай бұрын
Ironically this upgrade probably is just as reliable as bone stock because of the upgraded internals. Not to mention they definitely didn't push the engine to its absolute limit. It still has lots of wiggle room. The tune they applied is pretty much how a brand new Cummins would be in power whereas the Ram was basically detuned to meet emissions (before the days of modern particulate filters and whatnot).

@@SonicBoone56 I’m not sure where he’s from but not every state uses salt, and you can wash them all you want but the shit still gets up in the places where you can’t really wash and is still gonna rust them out faster than non salt states. Once it gets cold enough most all the car washes shut down for the winter anyways so unless you’ve got a big heated shop with a hot water pressure washer ready to wash your vehicle after every trip in the winter than you’re not gonna stay ahead of it.

@@pddofficial that sounds like a lot, but it really isn't. Considering you guys actually replaced most of the internals of the engine and transmission to actually handle the increase in power, you could argue the extra cost is absolutely justified because this tune WON'T destroy the entire engine and transmission like most hacky DIY tunes. Wouldn't you rather spend the extra few grand knowing it's done right the first time? I certainly would. Spend more now, cry less later! Plus you guys did the tuning right in front of him and showed him all the parts being replaced. How many other tuners (hell, even regular mechanics) actually do that little extra to boost confidence and be transparent?

With a clutch upgrade, the 5 speed is pretty good and reliable at 500 rear wheel horsepower. Around the 600HP mark, 3rd gear becomes a common failure point, then 5th gear around the 700 HP level. FYI, 4th gear will hold 2000HP with just a 1.375" input shaft upgrade a strong triple disk clutch.

How much of a difference in horsepower and torque do you see on a dyno that you can load versus one you can’t load in a diesel?
@cs-gj3yf
@cs-gj3yf 10 ай бұрын
massive difference can be upwards of 200-300 hp
@pddofficial
@pddofficial 10 ай бұрын
This very much dependent on the truck! If the truck is quick spooling and carries out power well then the load can mean less than 50hp on a 1000hp truck. However if you have a tight setup like a 12v with factory head that doesn't carry power out well then the load can help spool the charger at a lower rpm and help get the boost up where the engine wants to make power. In this situation load can. mean as much as 20-30%.

Crazy how that's less power than my old Chevy Cobalt. Granted it has more torque. I actually found out that the old school buses I rode in as a kid made like 200-300 horsepower and 600-700 lb-ft of torque. You'd think they'd be way more powerful considering they weigh at least 10 tons without any kids. Nowadays I think they're like 1.5x as powerful if not more, especially the hybrid versions.

I wish this mindset was common with gas tuners too. Bozos are the idiots decatting their cars to squeeze a few extra hp or putting massively oversized turbos on a car. A smart person wouldn't hack up an engine and make it illegal in most states. Learn to do it right.
