Is the tow rig rocking a BOV?
@BentonL8 ай бұрын
I would like a vid on editing fuel and timing and duration maps. Typing in each and every individual number is hard. I assume there is a faster way. Maybe a crash course on it. 8:49 Next maybe flow test several filters on your flow bench to test resistance. TLDR I am able to make some changes to rpm, skim, and ac cut out and what not, but I am struggling with the tables. I know there are things you have be careful of when posting for many reasons. No one has done this without over complicating it. Not sure anyone else would like to see how to build a tune. Even if just modifying a stock tune to run cooler for towing. Efi live or Hp Tuners are the platforms I have. I am hoping to make it to either Josh's shop or Firepunk this summer to get both trans finally sorted out after all these problems. Not messing with freight any more. 20k in losses as I see it. Cheaper the spend 1200 in fuel and lose 20 hours of driving. I will make a vacation out of it.

That's an awesome compound setup. How clean it was running at the track at "only 1100" was slick. As for the first stage to second stage compressor split, it was actually not driving the second stage as hard as it seemed. You guys actually had them balanced real well. For one of the runs I paused the video to see the datalog on the dyno screen for a run with 109 on the manifold and 31.7 interstage. To figure the relative load on each compressor, look at the pressure ratios for each. The total pressure ratio on the manifold for that run would be as follows: Total manifold pressure was gauge pressure of 109psig + 14.7psia (if it were sea level), or 123.7. Adjust atmospheric as applicable. So the total pressure ratio achieved at the manifold was 123.7psia / 14.7psia or a PR of 8.41:1. Your first stage PR would have been the 31.7psig + 14.7psia, or 46.4psia divided by 14.7psia atmospheric, for a PR of 3.15:1. Total PR is first stage times second stage, hence compounds, or in this case 3.15X = 8.41. Solve for X, and your second stage PR was actually only 2.67:1. So the first stage made 31.7psi and the second stage made 24.5psi in terms of the "work" each compressor was doing. Quite balanced. Cheat code for balancing in a setup that DOES have gates that can be manipulated..... just take a MAT sensor reading and tune the balance between the two for the coolest intake air temps for a given boost pressure and you've not only mechanically balanced the load, but found the balance in compressor map efficiencies between the two compressors all at once. With the setup in this video, I would not be surprised if it is very close to dialed with no gates and just the turbine AR's selected. Killer setup.
@pddofficial8 ай бұрын
Great write up! Just for fun at our altitude atmospheric pressure is around 11 psi. Math is still solid just a little bit higher on the pressure ratios.

Todd you are HILARIOUS. Only making 1140hp and only 1849lb-ft of torque. That's so much power. Damn I remember as a kid being in awe of the Porsche 959's 450hp and now that's just above tuned Camry numbers, although a tuned Camry is probably pretty hard to find. Still street driving an 1100hp truck is insanity, I don't think I could keep tires on it especially with that manual style tranny. I'd be dropping a gear and punching it all the time. I’ve only ever owned one diesel truck being a LB7 and honestly adding power was stupid easy. I threw on a lift pump and 45% over SAC injectors with zero tune and it was enough to make the stock clutches and torque converter cry for there mommy 😂 I think my truck probably only put down 350hp to the tires on a good day and maybe about 700ft pounds of torque but it was definitely addicting if I had the money back then I definitely would’ve built the transmission and tuned it to see what I was missing out on and someday hope to recreate that truck

Great content!!! I love streetable big horsepower diesel trucks! Can you make some videos driving the truck on the street so we can see smoke output? I’ve got a similar built 6.7 in a 2006 with a 48re. My truck made 1,100 to the tire on a well known chassis dyno. But my truck has a big single turbo and 300% over injectors. Smokes like an old freight train and is really not fun on the street. I’m trying to decide if I want to build a good set of compound turbos for it, or just put smaller injectors and a smaller single turbo on it. I would like to stay in the same horsepower range but I want to reduce lag and smoke so it’s more fun on the street. Great content guys!!! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
@pddofficial8 ай бұрын
That power number with compound’s could be done with much smaller injectors. You could achieve that power level with a hotrod he351 and good 480. Very fast spool and good smoke control.

I have kind of a weird question in relation to compound turbos. I realize it probably all boils down to packaging but i think a really cool test would be to intercool the interstage charge. Pressure ratio is only 1 part of potential power. Density ration is the other part. The industry standard is to run the atmo into the high pressure turbo directly. Could you guys set up a test keeping boost the same with both stages while adding an interstage intercooler and see if there is power to be had by feeding the high pressure turbo cooler air.
@pddofficial8 ай бұрын
The godfather has 2 water to air coolers. 1 for each stage. If you can fit it they are very worth it. Usually have to cut the truck to make it fit.
