the owners of the buildings tend to use that money to invest in other buildings so that they can make more money. it used to be a big problem that people couldnt get their deposit back because the owners used it, but now when you sign a housing contract the owners of the building usually have to prove that they are financially stable and will be able to pay you back!

Isn't key money a thing everywhere??
@dmixxt2167
@dmixxt2167 5 жыл бұрын
@@LadyAlainna in korea, yes. Key money is very important. Some apartment owners even ask for "gift money" which is NON refundable. So not only do you drop 5-10k in key money but you may also be expected to drop another 300-1k in just gift money. The thing is though, the money you pay them upfront usually pays for your stay entirely. Its not on a monthly payment basis like other countries. That's not to say that you don't have places that ask for a monthly payment, it just depends on the amount paid and the owner of the building. But it's not an easy move by any means. You def need some $$$ before moving there.
@LadyAlainna
@LadyAlainna 5 жыл бұрын
@@dmixxt2167 I mean in France you have to pay, depending on places, for about 5 months upfront + first month of rent and key money you get back if the apartment is kept in the same state it was when you first moved in so I'm not too shocked. We don't have the gift money thing though

@MonaHerSelfM
@MonaHerSelfM 5 жыл бұрын
Your society, economy and politics are rigged, sweetie. And everyone in the developed world looks at the US with pity and wonders why their inhabitants don't wanna change a thing. And then someone told me that US Americans don't know it the other way and don't educate themselves about what's life at other places. Like Germany. My rent is as cheap as hers. It's not always the case but 1000 dollars and up like you guys and all the other expensive stuff.... ... Why do you let this happen ? We don't understand. You guys are paying way too much for everything and work way too much for so little money...
@AS-bb7ey
@AS-bb7ey 5 жыл бұрын
MonaHerSelf well I doubt that it’s like that in every single US city. I’m not from the US but it seems more like you have a strong dislike of the US in general rather than a concern for the living expenses...

@prettyprincess8187
@prettyprincess8187 5 жыл бұрын
@@MonaHerSelfM It's not that we don't want change, we know how things are in other countries, in fact, in the US, we often use other countries as examples of why certain things should be changed or improved when talking politics. In fact, it's moreso that the older generations messed up our economy and now the newer generations: the one before mine, mine, and the next, are pretty much fighting with older generations for change. It's slow and frustrating tbh.
@twistedtwizzler3922
@twistedtwizzler3922 5 жыл бұрын
MonaHerSelf you think we dont know this? You actually think we want to live like this? Hello no its frustrating that our generation has to pay for the damage previous generations did to our economy. We’re struggling to say the least, and we want change but there wont be any until our previous generations have died off. They are currently in power and dont like change, we just have to suck it up until then

My apartment (share house really ) is 480,000 won a month with 60,000 for the extra stuff. So all in all 540,000 won. Our deposit was 990,000 won, which was so cheap compared to most of the housing here. It's a REALLY nice apartment too, and we're only about a 10-15 min walk away from Hongdae. I'm really happy about this place =)

Watching this actually makes me very sad. I live in an area of the US that has fairly cheap housing, but it simply cannot match this. The absolute cheapest apartment in my area is $525/month 500 Sq Ft, and here is what you get for that: It is in the worst part of town, in an extremely old building. It is solidly within the swamp, so you can be sure that you will be swarmed with mosquitos, no-see-ums, and yellow flies upon stepping outside. The majority of your fellow residents are almost certainly on meth. Water damage is pretty much guaranteed, and you'd be lucky to have working air conditioning (with an average humidity above 70%, this becomes miserable). Good luck getting anything out of management and for frequent police visits to your neighbors. I had a friend who lived there for a short amount of time and it was a living hell. Again, the cheapest possible place in the area. Then compare to this beautiful apartment and I simply feel sad and trapped.

This is honestly the kind of apartment I need. Nothing too fancy, just something small and manageable, and with hidden storage. Right now, my bedroom along with all of my things are crammed in a small den no bigger than that loft, tbh. The most challenging part of getting an apartment of that size is book case. I wouldn't need a grand TV or entertainment center, or a large couch; just something small and comfy. With the exception of my bed, the biggest thing I have is my cat's cat tree.

Okay, I don't know about the others but i feel like below 600$ for an apartment this beautiful and (pretty) big in a city is?? Cheap??? I do have very little reference since I have no idea how much income people usually have in Korea as opposed to Germany and the Benelux. I mean, a friend is going to study in a small city not far from where I live and he has to pay almost 300€ for a room in a house (not a free standing one)! Also, I have looked at student apartments in Belgium and I couldn't find anything below 200€ for, again, a single room with maybe a sink??

@jfreed91
@jfreed91 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, until you need another apartment and have to hand that cash back over again ㅠ I'm surprised they don't raise the rent prices to lower the deposit. I don't have $6000 just ready to hand over, but I could afford more than $400-500/month rent. It seems like a strange system that Korean landlords use.
@nomomania6827
@nomomania6827 6 жыл бұрын
@@jfreed91 Some Korean landlords will be negotiable to lower your rent even more if you're willing to put down even higher deposit. Higher deposit, lower rent. In some cases, FREE RENT if you're willing put down EXTREMELY high deposit. Landlords use that deposit money to invest and earn interest in money market accounts. Which doesn't make sense to me because increasing rent would earn landlords much more money than earning interest through savings/cd/money market accounts. For this apartment, if the landlord increases it from $500 to $1500 a month with only $2000 deposit, then the landlord will become much wealthier than earning mere interest money.

G. Aloysie just saw this comment! Even though it was from 8 months ago 😂 I work here on KZbin as a tarot reader and life coach.. My advice would be to start an online business- like making and selling jewelry on Etsy, creating online courses, selling services or products- anything you are passionate about you can turn into a business online. And what’s great is that all the information is out there. We’re living in the information era and can teach ourselves almost anything through free online videos and tutorials. We have the ability to connect to thousands and millions of people through social media and to get our product or services out there, when 10-15 years ago that would have not been feasible. There are no limits if you can dream it, believe it, and achieve it. 🙏🌈♥️
