I guess times have changed, when i first started playing guitar, 7s were far from heard or known that's why most of us started on 6 strings. now a days most of the new generation bands play 7s, 8s or 9s. which explains or justifies the starting your guitar journey with a 7 string.

I certainly see way more bands playing extended range guitars now but I doubt they account for more than 5% of guitar sales. I could be completely wrong though!

I'd go just for a mic'ed up 1x12 on that tight budget. My 7 string rig would be: Harley Benton R457BK FanFret - should be about the guitar shown in the video, but for 169€ (just 30€ more) you get a fanned fretboard. Pedal: Harley Benton Vintage OD (29,90€), just a Tubescreamer clone to boost the amp. Head: Joyo Zombie (169€), best budget metal amp imo. Cab: Harley Benton G112 Vintage (129€), the 1x12 Version of your Cab. So the whole rig is 496,90€ :)

You are absolutely right. Own that rig, except the guitar is the HB 7-SB DLX that they looked at first. Really impressive for the $275 it cost. I know a professional musician currently looking at the Zombie and Meteor for home use cuz he loved the rig I have in my living room.

Channel they provide a different scale for notes. Idk much about em, but I’ve noodled around on my cousins and it’s a little odd. Nothing you can’t adjust to with enough playing of the instrument.

For a non metal rig probably a HB TE52, a VOX AC10 and a plethora of cheap pedals or same guitar, JET City JCA20HV, HB G112 Vintage and a HB Delay and Chorus. For old school metal either a HB SC400 or S-620, a JET CITY JCA22H and a HB G112 Vintage. So many options with HB stuff.

I started with a 6 strings Aria STG Series and a Line 6 Spider IV 15 W. At the time it cost me around 300 dollars. I know that's not the best you could get but in my opinion you should get a 6 strings guitar and a decent amp. That's why I upgrade to a 10" Marshall cab (a friend found one and gave it to me for free, so yeah it helps) and a Hotone Brithish Invasion for 100 dollars and i'm so happy with it. I think the best would be to have a Fender Squier and the Hotone. So this way you can get the basics and have fun and good sound. It's not the gear that makes the music, it's the person behind the instrument.

Honestly, I would go with a used Ibanez RG7421 and a Tech 21 Fly Rig 5. You can do metal with it fairly easily. It works with headphones, and for gigging you just put it into the PA

I`ve would have chosen the Harley Benton 7 SB-DLX (the one you first had in mind) and a Boss Katana 50. Might be a little to quiet for a full band practice, but it has an built in interface, which schould be fine if you`re just starting. I love Thomann btw!

I can get a 6505 for under a grand.
@caiovictorsardinha2330
@caiovictorsardinha2330 6 жыл бұрын
You can get a new 6505+ for $999, and a new Katana head for $350, with a used 6505 head going for like $500 at an indeterminate level of use and reliability. Hence "pretty much." I'm also not too big on the 6505 sound and feel, so YMMV on whether that's necessarily any better
@Kevin.Kelly.
@Kevin.Kelly. 6 жыл бұрын
Anything tube is going to sound and feel better than a modeling amp. (My opinion). Also, the 5150/6505 line are built like tanks. I’ve scored a used one as low as $350 before! For metal and budget they’re pretty much the standard.. but to each their own!
@caiovictorsardinha2330
@caiovictorsardinha2330 6 жыл бұрын
Personally I find them kinda congested, I like something a little more open in the midrange. I agree with you that tube is generally superior, though. The Katana's a little stiff and too focused, almost like pretty much the same vibe you get from a 6505-type amp with a tube screamer in the front. Like, they sound fine and they play fine, but if you want a general vibe like Trey's kind of sound, that's kinda the Katana thing. Again, YMMV depending on what you want to do with it.

Personally, I'd get: Axe: Harley Benton Extreme-84. Explorer-style with active pickups that sound good (also a 6-string, which is better for beginners). $151 Amp: although it's not on Thomann, th Randall RG80 combo goes for $250 brand new. Randall amps are king for solid state metal tones, and with the option to footswitch between the channels, and coming with an effects loop, you can't go wrong That combination comes out to $401 (as of writing this) which leaves some space to get a Joyo/Harley Benton effect pedal if you so choose (with the Extreme-84's active pickups though, a drive won't be necessary)

For 500 I’d get a midrange schecter to take up most of the money, then spend like 30-50 on an iRig and use Tonebridge on a phone because you can get infinite tones. Then there’s no need for an amp. But that’s only if you are just like a bedroom player

I have that Harley Benton Progressive as well. It honestly plays better than most 7-strings I’ve had that cost around $400. The only bad thing I’ll say about it is SWITCH OUT THOSE MACHINE HEADS IMMEDIATELY. They don’t go out of tune super easily, but easily enough for me to be scared to do bends. The pickups are really good though and the bridge is nice and resonant. If you have some more money though Harley Benton has a fan fret 7-string for about 300 and it plays great and looks and feels phenomenal.

I bought the blackstar ID:Core 40 head, and I would not recommend buying one for live situations, it is simply too quiet. Cranked to max it's still more quiet than the drummer of my band. So, I'd say, safe a few bucks more and buy a louder one.

Less for speaker, more for amp. Going from one to two 12" celections will not add you much in sound quality, whereas putting this money to amp will change a lot. Another thing, HB's have pretty dull mics, so I would go to update them (I did). Something like pair of IronGears for 60 euros will bring completely different level of sound quality.

This isn't a beginner rig! A 7 string guitar and a separate head and cab is not beginner material. For a £500 budget I would drop roughly £300 on a 6 string guitar and around £200 on a combo amp. Still a great video anyways!
@FairyCRat
@FairyCRat 6 жыл бұрын
You don't need a 6-string and a combo to start out. The head and cab aren't really much harder to use, you just need a speaker cable that you wouldn't need with the combo. Not to mention that nowadays the best solution for bedroom players is probably plugins.

Giggable rig for beginners? I would just buy a small practice amp like the roland cube series. Beginners don't usually gig, so what's the point of having 2x12 cab.
