500bhp K20 turbo Toyota MR2 Spyder makes Josh SCREAM!

his is not what we expected to turn up at the Showa Racing trackday in Mondello Park last week! A full race-spec K20 powered MRS Spyder that is now more Honda than Toyota. The owner has spent 3 years building a car designed to smash laptimes and very much scare it's passengers. Josh jumped in for a few laps and it's safe to say he was shaken afterwards! We also get the MX5 started for the first time in forever!

Greetings, thank you for producing this video, it was a great example of a track-oriented, K-powered MR-S. Do we know whether the MR-S was a Time Attack specific build or whether it was an open-wheel race car? I am most curious about how the owner addresses heat soak with the turbo after multiple laps. I am secondly concerned with how many laps that build can reliably take before a rebuild. Cheers!

Just curious, did it effect the handling? The 1ZZFE weighs 300lbs and the K20 is 405lbs and K24 is 435lbs, does this additional 100+ lbs cause a worse snap overstear issue, or can you even feel it? I know they are near 50/50 balanced stock..

@@manthenasriyashwanthvarma4037 I ended up Looking at the forums and with the 2ZZ swapped it's a 38/62 with the Toyota 6 Speed. The K20 they indicate that it's more like 30\70, because the 6 speed that Honda uses is much beefier, but it's also nearly double the weight. Forums said the highly recommend a wide body kit and wider rubber at the front for safety reasons. Honestly i go back and forth.. thinking the solution is to just build the 1zzfe and turbo it. These cars aren't slow stock, even though the 1zz on paper is under powered, the MR2-S isn't heavy..

Agreed that the little 1zz punts a stock spyder along fine, been reasonably happy with mine. That said, I am a boost freak so will be putting a turbo on it for just a little more go, nothing outrageous as it's just a daily street and weekend car. I have a twincharged aw11 for track.

@@feral4mr2 I assure you, lift off oversteer with the pendulum effect is a real thing.. drive harder, you'll find the limit.. just do it on a track or a coned out track day so you don't wreck the car..
