I remember watching and recording it on a Video 2000 machine! It was on either Grandstand or World of Sport (Dickie Davies). Replayed it many times. I was 16yo and was racing a CR125. The only way you could follow him winning the World Championship was by getting Trials and Motocross News at the end of the week! Unless you lived through this, it would be impossible to appreciate how special that bike was and how good a rider Dave Thorpe was.

Had the pleasure MXdN 1985 and 1989 with a lot of works bike with a lot HRC stuff. One year, 1985, Dave had these gold blue YOKO pants. Had MDS helmet and couldn't get the Oakley that time and bought the Scott André had. Of course I had white-blue AXO's! So happy and thankful to be on my 10/20thiest those days. Thank you all!

WOW - all I can say !!!!! Thorpe , Noyce etc - the euro hero's of our time !!!! Hard to believe it has been 40 years and thank's for the internet and Capt 999laser we are able to relive this time again !!! I remember meeting Danny Chandler in 1983 at Millville MN aka "spring creek " it was the highlite of my mx time as Magoo is my favorite rider , he hands down beat the compition that day in the 500 class on his Honda - I was very excited when Danny went to race the 500cc world championships on his KTM 500 , he won the French GP that year and had a bad crash where I believe the rear shock broke and he sat out a few rounds but did finish 3rd in the series I believe ??? Sorry to ramble on but this video brings back memorys , I raced the 500 class in 83/84 on a can-am mx 500 and in 85 my father bought me the ever so potent 85 Honda cr500 - and I raced it for a couple years and then switched to a KX 500 - man those were the days !!!!! The honda's in your video are simply amazing and what a treat to start out friday with !!!! Thank you 999lazer 🏁

@err40712 ай бұрын
@@volksdeutschewaffenss9670 It was revenge for 1985 when thorpe embarrassed the whole American team with legends such as David Bailey and Jeff Ward all on factory machines. That day Bailey also got smoked by Ron Lechien his teammate in moto 3 on a 125 as well lol. Sometimes sh-t happens and occasionally results like that can happen in MX. I have been to many open class races where a talented rider on a 125 has beaten other talented riders on 250's and 500's on small technical tracks, so it does happen. In thorpes case though it was more of a case of fatigue and mistakes and poor riding on the day.
@volksdeutschewaffenss96702 ай бұрын
@@err4071 yes so embarrassing for Thorpe being world mx 500 champion being smashed thrashed by a production cr125 with less than half the power on an open out door track that suits the big bore 500s, you can bet Thorpe rode back to the pits with his tail between his legs after that race , it was not Torpes day alright cheers
