Great video. Thank you 1st time I did that journey was in the winter of '02. (Hauling a bulldozer to Ft. Liard). At that time, it was all gravel. There was a stopping place midway called Checkpoint. Bought the T shirt, but Ive misplaced it in the last 2 decades.

I love the Mr Ballen podcast/KZbin as well. Started watching your channel because the wife and I are thinking about buying the same trailer you have. So, watching your channel is a virtual test drive for us before we decide to buy. 😂

Yes. Dust, mud and vibrations especially on the Dempster Hwy. It will a true test of your trailer. Take care and safe travel. Love your adventures.

We’re mentally preparing ourselves for it! It’ll be the biggest test of our adventure by far

I always turn my roof fan on high too create a positive pressure in my van to keep the dust pushed out. You can always tape a furnace filter to the fan opening if the fan is pulling dust.

Does turning on the roof fan work? I thought about doing that but didn’t know if the fan would pull enough air for it

@LetsJustGoTravel you just need a little positive pressure, it makes a big difference

We have had the dust issue in the Yukon and Alaska as well. A couple tubes of caulking will go a long way sealing up around the wheel wells and where the plumbing and things enter the trailer from underneath. Helps keep the mosquitoes out too. Looking forward to your videos every week!

Yeah we discovered that it was also coming in from the wheel well! Just covered with duct tape from the inside for now but I should go get some sealant. Thanks for tuning in!

I towed trailer with my 2016BMW X5 to Yellowknife from Toronto last August, same route and same situation you encountered , fortunately BMW X5 has eco mood to drive, finally it saved about 60km gas usage to reach the gas station of destination!

I did the Dempster Hwy from Dawson City to Tukiuktuk. 900km of gravel Hwy each way. Arctic Ocean was awesome but my tires hated it. Lol If you end up doing it, the first 60-70km is bad and just gets better after Eagle Rest. The first place with a gas station and the longest to drive.

We are definitely planning on going up Dempster! But nervous about how much more dust we’ll get in the trailer haha 😂 thanks for the tips!

Well, the drive was interesting to say the least. Does it make you nervous to be so isolated and not see other cars or people? That dust was terrible. I felt so bad that you had to clean that all up. What a mess. But you both keep smiling no matter what happens. Safe travels as I look forward to next Sunday’s video.

We’ve felt safe pretty much everywhere we’ve gone! We always have a way to communicate with the outside world either with Starlink or our Zoleo device so in an emergency we can call for help. It’s one of those risk vs reward things for sure, but we always feel it’s worth it!

All vents and windows must be closed when traveling on dusty roads. Any left open gives the dirt a path.

We figured out that it was coming in from the wheel well seals as well as the front entry door. Might have to replace the weather stripping..

Great adventure. I'm envious. Nice to know about the dust issue. I'm thinking if I do something like that, maybe duck tape around the outside of the door. I'm wondering if some of that came in through the fridge and heater venting on the rear of the trailer. If the fridge is off, could tape over those vents.

Thanks! I think we narrowed it down to the passenger side wheel well as well as the entry door. Duct tape on the inside of the wheel well worked!

Maybe I missed something, but couldn’t you just stop in at Fort Simpson for gas? It is along that route. Edit: ok, so you did consider it anyway.

I swear every video I watch from you guys is more reason for me NOT to buy a Jayco trailer in this weight range. That thing is built with bailing wire and paper mache. Yikes.
