Good opportunity for eateries along bypassed towns on the freeway. Add a bunch of 75~150kw charging spots or a scalable system(gives lower charged cars a bit faster speed) near restaurants. If people are stopping for half an hour, they wouldn't really need super fast 300+kw bays, keep them for the freeway service stations. Im probably going to hold off buying an EV until they stop the hot-potato EV charging system they currently have. They are stuck in the petrol pump mindset, and its far too frustrating. I'm stopping for a break, let me park, fast charge my car to close to 75%, then slow it down and charge the next person faster, make all bays capable of max charging. Even if its two banks of 6 bays of 700kw divided by 250+250 and 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th car, divide the remaining 200kw until their turn. Would be an easily expandable system providing they can source more energy.

To properly track whether EV charging infra is catching up, do we have stats and trends on ratio of EV's to DC chargers in Australia? This should be a fairly easy thing to calculate.

Shell have 125kW chargers fairly extensively in the UK. That was enough to charge a Polestar 2 in about 25 minutes, which was enough time to get a coffee and use the amenities.

@@LudicrousFeed one other thing... Electricity and combustables don't mix, they will need to be a safe distance with regulatory compliances obeyed. Do we have regulations for petrol stations yet? honest question. maybe some of the small stations won't have enough distance space to have both?

I would love to know the reliability of this hardware not having heard of it before and also the ease of parts/maintenance as well. I totally agree Apps need to GO it needs to be contactless payment & Plug & Charge like other parts of the world do. Not Autocharge either, looking at you EVie, that is just a cybersecurity incident waiting to happen.

I just wish other state governments would take more of a lead too. Over here in WA I only know of two Tesla super chargers in the Perth metro area and there are 2 or 3 others that provide above 200kW. Luckily I have a 100kW charger nearby, but they are just too far and in between. I work away from home in a drive in drive out situation and the best I can get is 11kW, that's about 4 hours of charging each week so I can get back home again.

How do they stop folks with slower charging speeds charging on these high speed capable units in Europe thereby limiting people who have the high speed capable vehicles from accessing these units ?

@ thanks Tom ….. another reason as you say that you need banks of ten or more. Would be annoying if you arrived at the two 500kw units at a station with your 350kw capable vehicle and found two 80kw capable vehicles stuck there. This would dramatically reduce the effective capacity available from the units …. Maybe a $$$ rege based on the charge rate rather than kw…

Downside of basement carparks is that they’re not usually open 24h and they’re not suitable for trailers. Nor are they always present outside our big cities … hence forecourts are needed for highway stops

80% of my solar i generate goes to the grid. I'm probably selling it to AGL at 5c/kw, and they sell to charge my neighbours Tesla at 35c. We both work nights, so he's charging during the daytime, but unfortunately, his house is heavily shaded, so home solar wouldn't work for him. Currently, I've supplied 3,287kw to grid, drawn 377kw. I'm super keen to get an EV because of this, but my garage barely fits a Mini. I've not got a battery.
