In celebration of my 500th video- I’m opening a challenge to ALL other firewood producers. All you have to do is process a cord of wood, film it and time it and send me the time. I’ll keep track of it similar to the way Top Gear scored the lap times. After Labour Day, we’ll announce 3 winners, one from each category. The winner of each just might score an allegedly fabulous prize to be hand delivered at next years International Firewood Expo in Ohio.
Thanks for watching!
Jeff

You & your wife did good, you were close to 30 minutes & no one was injured. The splitter you have seems to work like a well oiled machine so to speak. TY for sharing. Dave D. from Maine.

Congrats on Vid #500. 👍👍 It's a darn good thang that the contest closes on Labour Day and I don't get my wood until Oct - I'd be embarrassed to post my time / cord but I enjoy doing it...

Well done, heard about this from Kenny. Rachel and I will take a crack at it. You should create a playlist and add everyone’s video. We did this when we ran our 1/3rd of a cord challenge a while back. That way everyone can find all of the entries in one place.

I fall into category 1 but have to bow out gracefully because our firewood process is too complicated😅as we buck in the woods and haul it out, leaving the sawdust in the woods. But I can assure you we have the best overall record for harvesting a cord of wood plus splitting and stacking for an all-time record of 6 hours😅maybe 7? But I will tag a few people on my channel and try to draw attention to your challenge, if that's ok with you?

Hi Jeff and Leslie!!😀😀 Might not be record time. But it's really going to be a hard time to beat. Leslie is a badass worker and I wouldn't trade her for nobody!! 16 foot wood all 12 to 16 inches in diameter and I bet you could get it down to around 20 minutes. Can you buy 16 foot wood on a regular basis? Take care my friend!!😀😀💚💚 Logger Al

I’d rather stick with 8’, unless I had more room for the logs and a bigger tractor. I’m good for about 80 cords in my stock yard of 8’, 16’ would need more room to maneuver them than I have.

I'm going to try this challenge with the Bells 4000 and then once we get the Black's Creek 2500 going again I'd like to submit a second challenge video.. we are roughly 2 weeks out to getting the Black's Creek up and running again.. had an issue with the engine and decided to get get an upgrade while I'm at it..

What do you think a fair measurement for a cord is in log form is? 4'x4'x8'? Or would should I made it bigger to account for the air space? I might try it with my chainsaw and splitter.
@thelogfather5002
@thelogfather5002 5 күн бұрын
A log pile needs to be 12% larger than 128 cubic feet in order to end up with a cord after waste… I’ve made thousands of cords of wood and that’s about the best I could manage with regards to what I can’t squeeze from the raw product.
@James.......

@@thelogfather5002 that’s easy enough. If I go 4.5’ high instead of 4’ that gets me the extra 12%

Question, if you are selling by volume, why do you have a mountain of ends in the yard? Why not just cut the last piece of the log in half and let it go into the trailer?

@@thelogfather5002 I'm not suggesting throwing the end into the trailer. If the last piece is 20", just cut it in half. 10" would be stackable. But hey, whatever it takes to keep a happy customer.👍

@thelogfather5002 5 күн бұрын
@WoodchuckCanuck any block longer than 10” gets put in the trailer- 10” exactly gets put aside for a large contract I sell wood to a spa- under 10” is waste. I sell the blocks as U-pick- U-Haul for $60 per truck or trailer load, regardless of the size of the truck or trailer. It’s good to see them go. I’ve given plenty away too. Now if I can only find a market for my slabs from the sawmill…
@WoodchuckCanuck
@WoodchuckCanuck 5 күн бұрын
@@thelogfather5002 Slabs, as a last resort, pile it and when you have enough for a self loader trailer, have them haul it off to the mill. Won't earn much but better than nothing. Can't even give slabs away here.
