As the darkness of a global pandemic fell across the world, one man raised his Rolling Rock to the camera and said "Hello class!". Tom Bukovac - AKA The Session Man, AKA Uncle Larry - transformed his garage into a make-shift youtube classroom to share his lifetime of wisdom gained from making music alongside the giants of the music industry on a daily basis. While he regularly begins class with amazing improvised compositions it often evolves into discussions of life, family, friends, work, football, casual apparel, beer, bread and breakfasts. Before the video ends it all comes back around to music and Tom will share the details of his opening composition. Over the last year we've been treated to session updates from the field where Tom gives a behind the scenes of the line-up of personnel and gear. The syllabus is straightforward: Open with a strong intro, get an update on life and work, reflect on comments and notes from the previous class, and then close with details of how to inject your own playing with the unique elements of the opening. The only flash is his amazing arsenal of vintage guitars and amps, beyond that, it's all substance. The community that has grown around the channel is uniquely supportive, warm, and welcoming. That is Tom Bukovac's Homeskoolin youtube channel.

Hey Tom, Coincidence and work brought me to Nashville that week and I was at the second of your two sets. I had to bug out right after the show but it was absolutely awesome! Many times I was reminded of your story about seeing (I think) Peter Gabriel/Sting in Louisville, KY. It was so satisfying to hear all these pieces fully realized into an ensemble performance. Working in the service of others for so long can make one think that an individual effort, a personal one, might be time better spent in the safety of what is familiar. Cheers to you on the long game!

I couldn’t agree more. Tom has taste and feel for days. He can play as fast as anyone but chooses musicality over showing off and shredding. His resume of all the albums he’s played on and tours he’s done speaks for itself.

I suspect that the owner of the Les Paul would not be interested, but wouldn't it be nice if we all contributed $x and bought it for Tom. He DESERVES to have it if he loves it so much. Like many of you, he came along just when we needed him to. I also feel a weird closeness to all of you, especially the folks from other countries. I sometimes get an ominous feeling about this world and I fantasize about another way of living for all of us. Music and food and family and love seem to be at the center. Naive, I guess. And I am an old guy. Thanks to Tom and all of you.

Uncle Larry...if there is anything left to say after a performance that left me speechless....it’s that you belong in the front. That was so much more than just guitar playing. It was music in its purest form, straight from the soul. Symphonic. Easily some of the best, if not the best Les Paul tones I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I still can’t believe those were live guitar tones. I’ve never seen someone play with that kind of touch. And all I kept thinking throughout the performance was The Beatles. You have The Beatles melodic invention engrained in your hands. TV Dinner sounded like a modern Dear Prudence. Then the Les Paul Jr came out and it was as rock n roll as rock n roll can get. To the world’s coolest and best guitar slinging Uncle 🍻 I’m about to drive from Connecticut for the next show!

Soul, and taste, that says it all. The man has buckets full of both. Splashes of GIlmore, Allman Bros (Dickie), Walsh, Clapton, Taj, it's all there. TB's own influences all meshed together beautifully, as a nod to the present and the past. As in all the vintage gear, and melodic vintage licks. That's what makes him unique in the studio, and refreshing in the era of flash and speed. Not that he can't zip along as needed. But his taste and subtlety and melodic beauty are his hallmarks. Along with awesomely tasteful perfect rhythm playing. A long lost art. As he teaches the new gen of players the history of the instrument through his playing. And and the chords. The chords! And the great taste in past music. Fearlessly bringing it back to our attention. Early Genesis? Can't remember the last time I heard anyone mention Genesis (the band). Let alone sang it. And poetry? Can never go wrong with beer, guitar, and Bukowski. Best of all worlds. He's a real renaissance man. A brilliant musician, and guy you can see yourself hanging out with on Sunday to watch football. No pretense at all. Straight from the heartland. Kudos sir. You've managed to roll it all into one awesome package. Even letting us know about early gear through a pop quiz lol. Keep the great work, education and content coming. Food for art.

Tom is truly one of a kind. Whether he’s a believer or not, obviously pure God given talent, no other way to explain it, IMHO. Loads of guitarists work very hard, as we know Tom does, but the effortless, brilliantly improvised playing Tom exhibits? I’m sorry, that ain’t “learned”, that is a gift. I heard prog rock, blues rock, country, jazz and the blues all inflected in there. Above all, I love your feel and the emotional expressiveness that comes from a lifetime of studying and working at your craft. The control to express whatever you want in the moment when you are off in cloud 9 and playing in the moment is what connects with me and your audience at large. You are the man and it's so great to see the Session Man who has played guitar for other musicians come out and play your own original music and seeing you have a blast. Sooooooooooo good!!!!!!! And yep, even better than the first set. You can always measure how good a gig was by your disappointment that it is over! ♥️🎸🎵

18:50 - Low earth orbit reached. Great show Larry and the boys!!! I've gotta say - I appreciate all the music you make. It's truly wonderful. The thing I can't get over is how well you use dynamics when you play... Not by grabbing the volume pedal, but by controlling your picking hand (fingers). It adds a layer to your playing that I've rarely (maybe never) seen in other live players. I first saw you demonstrate your prowess in one of the behind the scene studio videos... Just awesome Tom. -Greg
