Thinking that 502 needs a 4150 1000 cfm carb. That little restrictor plate is smothering that beast

12.5 is rich at full throttle actually. 12.8 is better and plenty safe for with that engine and most with heads like it has. I would have increased timing to 36 at full advance first in that engine. Your accel pump bolt/spring setting, the .015” measurement mentioned is the travel you want left in the diaphragm at full throttle so it’s not bottomed out. NOT clearance at idle/closed throttle. Lengthen the bolt until at wide open the spring starts to collapse, that’s because the diaphragm is bottomed. Then tighten the bolt/nut one flat on the nut at a time until the spring doesn’t compress, and you can slide a .015” feeler gauge between the head of the bolt and the lever, without the spring compressing. There should be zero freeplay. And in the secondary, get rid of the power valve, put a plug in and increase the main jets 6 sizes instead. Make 100% sure the throttle is pulling the carb wide open, because on a vacuum secondary, if the primary doesn’t open all the way, the secondary won’t open properly.

What gear are you making your pulls in? Just in case I want to make a pull on a mobile dyno. I’m running a big block 406 Chevy with a 5 speed in my 71 Nova, with a 400hp Fi Tech throttle body. Just filled up my tank yesterday and got 19mpg. Good cruiser for power tour.

It will be getting front disc's but I will be keeping the aluminum rear drum brakes. It will be a manual master cylinder. Some things are in the works for the 65 skylark.

Can you really tune a carb on a dyno with no load under the engine? Old man Bill is the best man for the job to tune a carb. He makes his adjustments then test drives it under load then makes final adjustments after that.
