Didn't Baton Rouge have a higher population than New Orleans in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina? Sounds like others took that long flyover toward New Orleans since then!

New Orleans lost 150k between 2000 and 2010, and it’s still down 100,000 as of 2020. But Baton Rouge’s population has remained steady at around 220,000 since 1980. There may have been some census estimates between 2005 and 2010 that could have put Baton Rouge at a higher population temporarily. I could swear that at one point, New Orleans dipped below 200,000 after Katrina, and that’s probable, considering how many housing units were uninhabitable. But by the 2010 census, most people who were coming back to New Orleans had returned. I think the metro population will continue to increase, but I think City of New Orleans is pretty much maxed out. There’s not a lot of new construction. Empty lots will probably remain empty forever. And the uninhabitable swampland in New Orleans East will never be further developed. Baton Rouge is probably also maxed out because of space limitations. Not a lot of place to build anything new within the city limits.

When will you be back up in Iowa?
@504RoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
No idea. We really have no reason to ever go up there, but if we do, I’d like to take a route through the center of the state. We’ve never been in deeper than about 20 miles from the borders.
