Ah, my birthplace. Nice to see it getting some attention!

The I-59 video I have been waiting for! I cannot see how this bypass of Meridian can carry two interstates, two US trunk highways, and an important state highway, all on four lanes! I wonder how this road fares at rush hour and on weekends. Great to see it in action and glad you didn't have to slow down - though that was a bit of traffic. Better to drive it virtually, I think!

Walter Saul I’m not sure about rush hour. I’ve driven it many times and can’t say I ever encountered traffic. But I don’t think I’ve ever hit it anywhere near rush hour.

It's actually not that bad. I've driven this stretch in the morning, noon and evening and didn't encounter any slowdowns. Most folks in Meridian uses city streets. I think what helps is that I-59 itself has very little traffic on it despite being the route from Birmingham to New Orleans.

@@PopLightBrown I am glad to hear that. They had a similar stretch in North Carolina (see 504's I-85 series around Lexington, NC) that carries I-85, US 29, 70, and 52, and it was a terror to drive until they expanded it from 4 to 8 lanes. But I guess I-85 is a bit more traveled than I-59 and I-20.

There was talk a while back and a MDOT study back in 2006 that recommended north and south bypasses around meridian. And if there's a accident on the interstate in town, traffic gets bad fast.

I never would have guessed that a place like Meridian would have it's own symphony orchestra.

Mississippi is surprisingly good at this.
