I unloaded right next to the old Oliver Plow Company in South Bend Indiana. Also my load to Florida canceled so I got all weekend to catch up on paperwork.

Year ago, in Colorado, my Grandfather had one of those plows you showed. That took skill and stamina to plow a field. Once, when I was about 3 or 4 yrs old, I kept "bugging" Grandpa to "let me plow". Soooo, he did..... AND 2 or 3 feet later, both the plow and I were being dragged along the furrow. I can still hear my Grandpa's laugh. My Grandma, bless her, did not whip me, but she really gave Grandpa a tongue lashing! He never once lost his grin.

Copied this for ya Dan. "The high-quality Oliver Chilled Plow dominated the market during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its creator, James Oliver, perfected “chilling,” a casting process that created durable iron moldboards and shares that retained a smooth surface during heavy use." Stay well and busy.

I'm always impressed when you are taking off and you are so easy on your equipment. Many truckers stomp on the gas pedal and wind it out to shift and so on. Love your style!! Also really like seeing the outside shots of loading and unloading and backing up. Great videos SuperTD. Jim.

A chilled plow as it’s called is a case hardened cast plow. The sticky soil of the Midwest would often stick to cast iron plow. Oliver developed a proses of hardening the outer surface of a cast plow called chilling. This would allow the face of the plow to become very hard and smooth like a mirror and not allow soil to stick on it. It also made it last 3 times longer then other plows. Oliver sold more plows than any manufacturer in the world in his time. Hopefully this helps explain what is the “Chilled Plow.”

Over several years of experimentation, Oliver found that the rate of cooling could be regulated if boiling hot water were circulated through chilling passages as the molten iron was poured into the sand mold. Grooving and ribbing the casting and mold also helped, and allowed the surface to be hardened while the core cooled more slowly, thus creating a smooth-wearing surface with a more resilient internal structure that increased the plow’s strength and durability.

Should get in the habit of dumping the Tractor/Trailer air whenever loading and unloading. Been doing it for years. Keeps the bags and shocks from stretching. Also glad to see I’m not the only one who admits being in the wrong hole. On the straps you cut, cut the excess in 12 inch pieces, and double up when you don’t want chains scratching paint off.

Dan,you are a breath of fresh air and common sense. so many of the trucker chanels are young drivers who roll the windows down to hear the exhaust and the jake brakes. They change as any gears as they possibly can. i had forty years on the road and do not want to hear this racket. There are fewer and fewer good trucker channels that interest me. Please do not change your format. Also, Thank You for your service. Air Force here !

This video is very good. It reminds me of John Steinbeck's novel "Travels With Charlie" which tells a story about a guy and his pooch traveling the country in his motorhome. It contained some of the most inspirational moments imaginable. Would recommend calling your future videos "Travels With Bailey". A cute name for a cute pooch.

Have a great day in my home town. Remember safety is number one on the road. And after you left and turn right on 23 you drove by where the old Studebaker foundry's set .

Thanks for the video Dan, nice to see a fresh one from you. About the plows, as I suspected it had to do with the foundry process where he did the casting of the blade in a manner that made it hard and wear resistant on the cutting edge but strong in the middle by being softer. So the "Chilled" refers to the manner in which the casting was allowed to cool in order to achieve the wear and strength properties which are desirable in a plow blade. It is quite a story, so I appreciate you sharing it and making me aware of it. Your travels, videos and stories are meaningful to us stuck indoors right now, keep it up! Kind regards, South Africa

On most trailers over here (UK Europe) the trailer height is adjustable using the air bags and a set height control. raise or lower. To prevent damage to mud wings or tyres, the trailer height resets on it's own after driving for a short while.
