Hey Jeff, wanted to stop by and say thanks for the knowledge bombs you drop every vid! I won my first race last weekend in a heads up sprint, and your pointers on timing a sprint were in my head right until I crossed the finish. Keep up the vids. Stoked to have an invaluable resource like this.

The emergence of African cycling over recent years is such a great story. Johnathan Boyer deserves a huge amount of credit for kick-starting a cycling community that has produced top-level riders. If you haven't seen the documentary about him and the efforts to inspire cyclists, it is highly recommended.

It's just the beginning! Part of the beauty of cycling is the locations of the courses. I can't wait for more cool races in Africa and Asia. The Ethiopian highlands would make for an awesome race location (Stuff like the taiwan KOM are freaking awesome)

Of the 195 starter at the World Champs this year, 61 riders finished with or ahead of the peloton, 35 riders were from just 7 countries. 6 were Belgian, 6 Spaniards, 5 Norwegians, 5 Slovenians, 5 French, 4 Italians, 4 Dutch... and just 6 were outside of Europe. 3 from North America, an Aussie, a Japanese... and an Eritrean.

What really impressed me about this is how Glen is basically dropped on the steep part of the climb on the last lap, but as the grade leveled out at the summit, didn't panic, kept the power up and moved to near the front. If the leaders had been able to follow thru, and keep the power high until the Corkscrew, catching back on would have been tougher (but Glen is so fast he probably would still have made it).

First, gotta be at the front at the top of the climb for that to make sense. Second, you have a 3 second gap off the front (best case) battling a headwind on a straight section of road. Now what? Not a great position to be in.
