If you have the proper tools and some junk electronics built with SMD components, with some practice, working with SMD is not bad. And this is from someone who learned to solder building point to point kits back in the 60s. Thanks for sharing.

Most PICs have the ability to use a 32.768kHz watch crystal for time keeping. There's no excuse for it not being able to keep time.
