I was completely unprepared for how difficult and prolonged and time-consuming recovery would be - we’re so focused on getting through the treatment and then these things happen we didn’t expect (mine is debilitating neuropathy from chemo 2 years ago), and it’s certainly very overwhelming. Be good to yourself and thank you for sharing. Please know that it’s helpful.

Thank you so much for sharing!! You nailed it on every account! It’s easy to let the adrenaline take over to get us through treatments. I am beginning to believe that the real recovery begins AFTER cancer (physically and emotionally), and learning to navigate the side effects from treatments and surgeries. I’m sorry to hear your neuropathy is so painful. Have you found anything that helps? Thank you again for sharing! It truly is helpful knowing others understand. Sending you so much sister love!! 💗💗😘

@@ChantelPurcellLiveYourBestLife so true about navigating life after surgery. I’d just like to add a plug for regular mammograms, self-exams and insisting that doctors take any questionable lumps seriously because it seems like people who are diagnosed early and can have a lumpectomy with no chemo have fewer post-treatment side effects. As for neuropathy, here’s my personal data dump, after trying everything: I take duloxetine, gabapentin, and a podiatrist suggested 500 mg of ALA (alpha lipoic acid - spelling) twice daily which actually works. Walking also helps if you can find comfortable shoes and the best is walking in water. I live in Florida, and for all its faults at least we have beaches - see profile picture of swimming dog; for anyone reading this who doesn’t have access to salt water, soaking in epsom salts and cold water helps too. Very important for me: avoiding refined carbs and gluten. It goes day by day - some days it’s unbearable and other days it is. ❤️

So happy to hear this update! That is huge! Thanks so much for letting us all know. I am going to see the surgeon on Tuesday to discuss if I am a candidate for the bypass. I’m so nervous.
