There is so much more atmosphere DOS era games than modern games. Everything has so much more...something

We were young and these games required so much phantasy and imagination. Not all served obviously and in even a bit sterile as today. I only have some.of that feeling in the real gems like Mass Effect 1 or Dead Space for example...

OMG! Thank you so much for this! This takes me back so hard. There is not nearly enough love out there for DOS soundtracks AND sound effects! They are so uniquely DOS. I remember being little and thinking “this sounds so different from my NES games… and I love it!” All the bleeps and bloops, the sharp, jagged tunes.. LOVE IT

There is a cinematic I remember from mid 90's where wizards are fighting eachother. One goes up a tower, and the other one starts smashing it from below. His head morphs into a fist. I remember the intro, but I've been searching for 20+ years and wasn't able to find it. I assume it was an RPG, but nothing I came across resembled what I saw. There was also a game that looked like Eye Of The Beholder. I remember it having a secret door and to pass through it, one had to say a code word, which was "Alexander". I assumed that knowing that bit would allow me to look up the game, but nope. Nothing on the internet about an RPG where "Alexander" is one of the passwords. I remember so many games from the 90's that I was never able to find again. I'm glad to have compilations like these to watch. I'm hoping that one day someone else will remember what I remember.

there were so many fun games with originality which made the best of the technology of the era. this makes me want to play all those games but I'm not sure I can finish them to the end as I did when I was young. playing games takes a lot of energy and time lol

So your video reminded me I have played ALL of these games and could graduate university with honors?! Sierra was iconic but Origin, Cryos and Bullfrog were the most impressive intro makers. To pass the Origin FX orchestra costed me a huge amount of money in memory, video card and sound card. Wing Commander was a highly ressource demanding game at that time!

I learned about computers from trying to run Wing Commander on my parents' pile of shit Windows 95 PC when I was 10. Dicking around with .ini, .bat .cfg files, virtual memory, sound blaster settings, etc. etc. without really knowing what I was doing, just piecing the puzzle together, not really thinking about hardware limitations. The fact that game was resource demanding contributed to success in my career many years later, I was never afraid of computer issues. I think I got it to run for like a minute in the end.

I've been looking for an intro to a DOS game, but I can't remember the title. A boy is returning to his home within a walled town or castle with his dog, an English shepherd. He passes a young woman selling apples, who gives him one and offers some to an overweight shirtless man, probably the blacksmith. The man refuses the first two apples and takes a third. Meanwhile the boy reaches his room just as a storm begins. Darkness creeps along the ground, consuming everything in its path: the castle walls, the man and woman, the dog... At the last second a wizard appears and teleports himself and the boy to safety.

Ah, not CD versions, so that's why LoL's king isn't voiced by Patrick Stewart!
@einokeino303 Жыл бұрын
Yes, Original floppy version din't have any voice acting besides the intro if I remember correctly. Westwood hired PS for one day reading lines. Extended intro lore was his most signifigant contribution in CD version.
@bbertram26 жыл бұрын
Lands of Lore....what happened to the kings voice? Thats not Patrick Stewart.....didn't know the floppy disk version had a different voice actor www.imdb.com/title/tt0131459/
@einokeino3036 жыл бұрын
Yes, originally the intro was voiced by Richard Smith, voice of Ak'Shel. They got Stewart for the CD release, where he also did extended narration of the game world lore. Notice at the beginning of the floppy intro, instead of voiced game title, there's only a sound effect so the difference is noticeable straight away. Apparently Stewart got $30,000 for less than 3hrs of work :D Very good choice to hire him though IMO.
