Tractor Time with Tim

Күн бұрын

After finishing our plowing fun, we decided ti disk it down with our old antique disk.
I have no idea what brand of disk this is. Nor do I know how old it is.
I know that we rescued it from my uncle's woods over 35 years ago. It had not been used in MANY years at that point.
I believe our John Deere 1025R could pull this disk. Afterall, we used to pull it with a 2 wheel drive Farmall Cub. One of the early ones (12 hp).
Featured Product: Lock-n-Lube. Get it here: goo.gl/hZbLcG
Be sure to check out our plowing video which was shot just before this one.

very good info for a lot of people who has never seen how the dirt is worked. my families didn't own a disk, we used a wooden drag, to smooth things out, and then went over it with a 3section harrow. I have to say-I do believe uns are liking the u-tube movie business-ha! and I love watching them too.

we resurrected a 6ft John Deere Killefer disc. dad and gramps trip over it. only had a welded wieght bar above the ground it had sunk. used the boom pole that gramps built on the 520 and pulled it out. the 520 pulls it but gets a good work out

I see you changed your name. Didn't know who this was at first. I like the knives on the disk. Wish I had that on my disk. If the ground is a little wet it would keep the dirt from sticking to the disk between the blades. I haven't seen a disk where you can adjust it like that. Pretty kewl. Thanks for showing it.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 8 жыл бұрын
+mi2tn Ah come on, you would recognize me anywhere! :-) I'm surprised your disk doesn't have scrapers. If we ever had a scraper fall off of our big disks, it would get full of mud very quickly, and never unplug. Scrapers are a requirement, at least in our area. In fact, I bet we couldn't have disked that little garden without filling the disk full.
@mi2tn

My disk is a brinly that was a CAT 0 that I turned into a CAT1. It does have at least 1 disk that fills up, sometimes more. I have to stop and dig it out. The longer I'm retired the more I wish I knew how to weld.

Very cool! So I have a much smaller version of that. Interesting that the Lock and Lube fit the grease zirk from so long ago. I've been meaning to get a grease gun like that, very handy.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 8 жыл бұрын
+Cash Johnston Yes, yours is smaller. Search for King Kutter Disk online and you can see what yours COULD be with some welding. Fun project. Equally interesting to see that the zerks still work after all of these years. Pretty amazing invention. Maybe I should do a video on that?

Sorry Tim , the old disk we have is completely worn of paint and markings . Many of these older implements were converted from horse drawn. When I get a chance I will do a little research and find out. Whatever brand ours is I remember being able to match up replacement bearings for it at NAPA.

old style john deere drag disk. We had one and to adjust cut, we pulled a rope that was attached to a lever on the tongue, back up, release rope, and lever would lock in place. When you pulled forward, the disk gangs would then go to full cut. When done, pull rope, pull forward, then release rope, and disk would go to transport. They could be adjusted for different cuts. Loved them!! BTW, how wide is your disk?
@TractorTimewithTim

I've got some older rusted up stuff like this on my hobby farm. What do you do Tim, use penetrating oil on all the working /moving parts then dissassemble, grease it all and re-assemble it? It looks sturdy and solid despite some superficial rust and old paint.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 6 жыл бұрын
For the most part, we do not attempt to disassemble. Simply apply grease and continue. If grease fitting rusted out, we will replace it. Of course, we are not using this old disk enough to worry about it.

Tractor Time with Tim Fair enough, i'm always retincent to use some old equipment as i never know what it has been used for also there are so many agricultural accidents and some are caused by trying to force something to work /cutting a corner. I'll just buy some newer implements than risk it damaging my 3pt or PTO jury rigging old 1970's and early equipment to modern tractors.
