She is in pretty good shape for a Lite Rollover. My Dad and Mom brought Me home from the Hospitol in January 1961 in a Red one JUST LIKE THAT ONE. My first night home they could not get me to sleep , so they put me in the back seat and drove around the block. To this day I fall asleep in a car if someone else is driving. Also explains why i love to here a Bug motor run!

When I was 17-18 (early 70's) people would give me cars like that. No one wanted them and maybe they just needed a little work .... damn. :) Sometimes just do a top end on them, I think it was $80 for a set of pistons/cylinders and take the heads down to the local machine shop ... those were the days.

I gotta stop looking at these early VW videos! I remember watching this weeks ago on my large TV. My mind has been wandering ever since. Actually there's not much left to wander! Back in the 60's we had one just like it with the added sunroof. Hauled kids, dogs, groceries, and other crap around central Illinois and loved it. What means the most, my wife and I drove our little blue '57 VW from central Illinois to the middle of NY for a small concert in summer of 1969 and made it back home alive! Most of you are too young to know but I still sorta remember that concert in a cow pasture and sleepin in a tent then the VW when the tent fell down in the mud, the rain, and the crowd. My wife served hotdogs topless so we could eat. I need another '57 VW ...... Like I need the Model A I foolishly recently bought. Thanks Mustie1 and the rest of you crazy VW lovers for the memories.

I remember when my brother and i went to look at a 57 bug in bayville long island around 1990 and the guy turns out to be a class mate and friend of mine from boces aviation school. so we haggle and he wants 3500 bucks. car was in driving condition. original olive green on the inside but dark blue on the outside. no rot and pretty straight. trans popped out of gear when romped on. 36hp and original tranny. we made an offer of 1500 dollars and walked away. 3 weeks later he calls us and accepts. no more deals like that anymore. Good luck. you are a saint for saving bugs or a glutten for punishment. I saved a rusted 63 sun roof bug in 1988. paid 450 bucks and restored her. joined the Connecticut VW club . My first show was Orangeburg NY. what a thrill. I did many shows like Litchfield and competed against the famous Humberto Lappa. I beat him once against his grey 64 first place 58 to 64. still have it and drive her regularly. even use it for work. im out of the show scene. but i may do one again someday in Connecticut because of you .

Now that's more like it Jason. A Bug with issues! My sister in law's husband bought a 1958, Glacier blue garage kept Bug from a widow in 1974. This was in Illinois and it had about 42,000 original miles, no rust and the lady had all of her service work papers. I loved driving it when my wife and I would visit them. He traded it for a 2 seater MG convertible which he took with when they moved to Maine. He wouldn't sell me the VW because he wanted the MG. I drove the MG when we visited them in Maine in 2007 and it still ran great. Can't wait to see the will it start videos.

My parents bought me a 59 in 64 when I started college. The engine seized in 66 and I sold it for short money cause I thought it was toast. The buyer put in a new engine in my driveway and drove away! I then bought a 61 with a retractable top which I had til 1970. Aah, the memories.

I bought my light blue '57 Beetle with sunroof in early 60's. Traded it and a 1965 Mustang fastback for a 1972 Gran Torino wagon for way under $6000. We drove that Beetle from Illinoiz to a concert in a NY cow pasture and back in 1969. It got an unbelievable fuel mileage. I could drive fom central Ill to Chicago and back home on the same tank of gas.

I love this channel! I do hope he starts to knuckle down and finish some projects before they need rescuing from him!! Haha. I understand being addicted to the purchasing process. It’s great meeting new people, having a discussion about the history on the vehicle (note,,,,, it’s better when there is no great history, keeps the asking price down, usually), then the negotiations! Ohhh yeah!!!! I have had a lot of vehicles at one time (24 collector trucks) but I only ever had 2, occasionally 3 projects on the go. There was only a 3rd, if one was completed to the interior or the 3rd one was just a refresh! It was hard to keep myself to that though!!! Once he gets a knack for the welding, he will get much quicker at finishing up his projects. I rarely buy any rusty projects, but live in a somewhat better climate.

Heck I would take any oval just to have one...lol Yes...buy it and surprise me with it!! 🤣 Did the body bolts come out?...More or less...😁 Never tried foil and ketchup. Hey!!!! Nice project. I’m not a rust kind of restoration guy. I can fortunately find mostly rust free stuff I like to work on though. In fact my most recent purchase needed a detail and drive!! Haha. It cost a bit mind you, 1990 Chevy 454SS pickup! In white! Not so common as the red or black. I also traded my 2020 GT500 for a 4 speed car!! Not a manual guy at all, but it is a 67 Chevelle 396 4 speed, mint and all numbers matching with a good history on it. Garage kept since new by the only 2 owners before me!! It’s again in the garage replacing the GT500. As part of the deal I got a 2015 Mustang GT Automatic. It is a slight custom, but I wouldn’t have done it differently. No performance modifications at all, 23,000 km or about 15,000 miles. I’m happy with the deal. I probably would have done the deal for the Chevelle alone, but the Mustang was included in his first offer. I gave him the leather jacket that came with the car and all of my GT500 memorabilia to sweeten the deal for him. That was a few grand in itself. Fun stuff!! Looking for a 80 - 82 Vette now. Wanting something that I can daily drive in the summer, nothing special. I want the fun of redoing the interior and maybe the motor and transmission, suspension work is fun too!! They are fairly cheap out there. Looking at a blue one with the fabric interior, but the crossfire injection on it. Not the best performance platform, but iconic. Fibreglass body, no rust!!! Haha. Subframes her3 are almost always clean as they tended to sit for the winters. NOOO RUST!!!!! haha. Nice that the car is already braced for you. You should be able to just cut almost all of that out and finish the floors and channels in one fell swoop! Good luck man!
