Seeing the string in the trunk reminded me of the one I attached to the gas pedal of my 58 in the winter. Get in with snow on boots, heater was just enough to melt it but then the water would freeze the pedal to the floor. Slow down by pulling the pedal up.

B5 is the numbers for a 1970 1600 Single port Bus Motor. I have two of them. They make great bug motors. I have 2 of them, that is what i run in my Baja..

In a pinch you have a tire with a big tear in it , you can stuff that tire full as you can pack it with grass etc . and it will roll for quite a ways .

Mr Smith bought the 55' Beetle used in 1958 ! Bought a new 65 Ghia vert , new 67 Westy , new 70' Bug , the 69 Westy used in 71 and the new 77 Bug ....I'm sure he had others , so lots of Vw history here with the Smith family :))) . Thank you CT !

I am here in Australia enjoying your youtube contributions and those of Mustie1.Thought you might like to know that I picked up a 71 semi-automatic beetle recently. It came from the desert country north of Adelaide in South Australia. It did not have a single scrap of rust on it, not one; though the heat had blistered some of the paint and the wiring insulation had been cooked in the heat. Different climate different issues, but I'll take our heat over your rust anytime. Best of luck.
