Hey Russ, when you are setting up the waypoints, try using a protractor that has different size circles on it as a template to draw a perfect circle and get a perfect radius for the point of interest at each waypoint. I’m not sure if it would be better to use arc or polyline, but having a more accurate circle might keep the camera’s perspective consistent on the POI. Thanks for the videos. Always something new to learn.
@djl615 жыл бұрын
Nice video! One thing though you didn't set the arc radius. Once you've chosen arc go back to each wapoint and set the arc turning radius. This will help to get smoother video from point to point. The larger the turning radius the smoother it will be. Its the last input on the lower bar where altitude and speed are. It shown on way point 2 and so on because no arc is needed for way point 1.
@51Drones5 жыл бұрын
Nope. Tried it this morning. You don't have the ability to change the arc turning radius. The last input is the POI.

Maybe you can create a two-point mission - 1 is your take off spot and 2 is the center of your POI. Set it to hover after completing mission, then switch over to POI with the same settings each time. By running the mission to point 2 then switching flight mode you would kind of guarantee the same center for the POI.

Hi Russ, I am a Real Estate photographer using a Mavic 2 Pro. I shoot stills only and feel that Waypoints will help me considerably. I have researched quite a bit and have not found what I am looking for. It is this: I would like to set missions from home, drive to the jobs, launch and shoot the home using waypoints, significantly speeding up my workflow. Unfortunately, most of my jobs are 10 to 30 miles away from home. I called DJI today and was fairly disappointed in the answer given by support. It took me several minutes to relay what I wanted the tech to understand. He kept telling me that I could only set waypoints by holding the drone over my head, (yes really). Eventually, he said it wasn't possible. I had to download GS Pro and pay for Waypoints through that site to do what I had in mind. I told him I knew it could be done using Litchi, but he was not helpful after that. I hope I am clear in my explanation. Do you or anyone have a suggestion for me? Thanks, Russ for all you do to help us here. I love your videos.

It might be a silly question but I'm assuming that my finished task is saved on the device that it's created on i.e. if I use my larger tablet to create my task, I'll need to fly the task with the tablet or, if I create my task south my SC, I'll need to fly the task with my SC? (I guess this is where Litchi still has the edge on Waypoints 2.0 in that I can logon on my laptop, create a task, then open the Litchi app on my SC once at the site) .. if that makes sense!

I would have use POI function in smart mode 100%. Set the speed to as slow as however much memory you have on your SD card, and get a nice slow video in DLOG, 4K. Take that into your video editor and adjust your speed there how you like, even bringing it back down to 1 mph and do some voice over narration. You can even finish off the video with a stability function, but that will cause clipping around the edges, so make sure your distance from POI is far enough away to where you won't miss it or the surroundings of it.

@StanCook5 жыл бұрын
I believe the lines between the waypoints is a straight line and you had the camera at waypoint one in that direction and you were right about having the other points aim at the same place. That is where the mini adjustment came from. If you set the point of interest and set distance from and clockwise or counterclockwise is should be smooth. In other words, I don't think you need waypoints for a perfect circle around the plant. Waypoints would be better for an irregular shape property or plant.

If I set an RTH from a waypoint, will it descend from that last waypoint, or will it descend from my standard RTH altitude? What if the mission is one way, and I want to meet the drone there, will the drone get confused if I am traveling a distance to meet it at the other end of the mission? Can I have it hover in place until I get to the point where I can control the final descent to land, and then land manually? Will trees that temporarily block the visual path to the drone, confuse it to detect signal loss from the controller and stop the mission? The mission is to record a video of a river which is bordered by trees and away from a road I will need to travel on to reach the end point and land manually. The river is not navigable by any craft due to it’s waterfalls, rapids, rocks, and dangerous locations on shore until the end point. Thank you for your response! Great study so far ... 😎
@51Drones5 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of questions! I'll try to answer them all. When your drone engages RTH, it will return at whichever altitude is highest at the time. It will never descend to a preset RTH altitude. That number you set is just a minimum height. If you want to meet the drone at the final waypoint, then I would not have it RTH after the mission. It will go back to where you launched from. Yes, hover and land manually. Trees will not affect a mission. Once it's locked in, it does not use the controller to run the mission.
@tim5095 жыл бұрын
In the first video Russ showed a setting for what to do if the RC signal is lost. By setting it to "continue mission" (or whatever it said), I think that would ensure that it would not try to RTH if you lose signal while traveling to the end point. Sounds like a cool video!

I created a new flight plan yesterday with 8 waypoints, flying around one building/POI. I did not set an elevation for the POI, which may explain what happened in my resulting video. But, when I watched the video later, the building, which was supposed to be the POI, was not, for many of the waypoints. And, I don't think it was ever centered in any of the waypoint positions. I am not sure what other adjustments to make, except I am going to elevate the POI to about 15 feet and see what difference that might make. BTW, the POI is not centered in the rough 360 degree circle that the waypoints make. They are at varying elevations and distances from the building.

What's the quickest/best way to make changes? For instance, you wish your gimbal was down just slightly more than you set it for and you make the adjustment while you're flying the mission but want that new setting from now on.

set a mission to fly waypoint and let the drone hover on arrival. Launch the drone and allow it to arrive. From that point manually set POI. This will ensure your launch position is always the same and so is your starting camera angle and height

@51Drones Could you start with a poi and use it to keep your radius constant while setting waypoints around the circle?

Hi, I purchased a Mavic 2 Pro a week ago. Was wondering if the "jerking" problem you discussed in this video has been corrected since you made the video? Thanks

I have not used waypoints recently. Maybe I should do a follow up! 🤔

@@RandomSynr No. There have been too many disruptions in the build process. There was a fire that delayed construction for 3 months, then a contract dispute to delay another 3 months. It's been quite a fiasco. They finally have been on a consistent build schedule, but I got out of the routine when all of the disruptions occurred. Sorry.

@@51Drones Have you not done a follow-up to this video....the info seems to be pretty old. I found you can to start video on way point one and stop video the last way point. Just designate that when in polyline and it keeps it when you switch to arc. I ended up looking at this video today because I was searching for an explanation of the different choices under Route Settings - either Free, Custom Route, and Route.

Is there still no update to set manual points for the mavic air ? (no C1 button on the air controller)

Hey Russ, I have a question about setting a fee for a job like this. With multiple flights over a period of time, Do you charge one fee or a fee for every time you come out to shoot the property? Thanks, Mike

Hi , would that also work with the mini 3 pro? I can’t get it to do waypoints in video mode

Is this possible with the Air 2 S Drone? I noticed on my control apparatus that there are no buttons on the back side!!! I assume I would need to upgrade my control apparatus! If so, what would you suggest and approximates costs??? Thanks

Hi Russ.....any way can you adjust the sensitivity of the of the point of interest box? My M2P veers off the POI
@51Drones4 жыл бұрын
Nope. If there is anything near your POI, it has a hard time.
@johnoare25474 жыл бұрын
51 Drones DJI need to make the POI visual and not from a map

Set waypoint at center, go to waypoint, start POI with same numbers every time

Turn off ARC mode when setting camera start and stop and then turn ARC mode back on. Experiment - imagine a square with sides of radius 100 ft. set a waypoint at each corner of the square each with a arc radius of 100 ft. I would expect it will fly a circle of radius 100 ft.

Hi Russ, loving your channel Q.When re flying a saved mission do you have to be on the same home position every time or will it just go to waypoint 1 from a different position Within reason Thanks Mark
@wephotographanything7083 жыл бұрын
Hi Aztech, it doesn't matter where you launch from, it will always go to WP1 first. Just make sure the route to WP1 is clear though!

Great video, this is exactly what I was looking for in a project that I am working on at the minute and has given me some great ideas on how I can proceed. I've subscribed and hit that notification bell and look forward to seeing how this series works out over the next 18 months. Question, how are you going to merge the footage over the next 18 months to create the final video?
@51Drones5 жыл бұрын
Ha! I'm not entirely sure yet! But I'm thinking a series of fades as I circle around. I will experiment. Getting the raw footage is my priority right now.

Awesome tutorial Russ Does the drone auto set the shutter speed I noticed it change 1/160 1/240 You were doing 2.7k/30fps so that caught my attention

Hi Russ. Thanks for the helpful videos!!👍. Quick hint. When the RTH beeps start, tap the controller power button quick it will turn off the beeping. The screen will still show returning info. *** Does not work with New Smart Controller. ***. Also can not copy or move Waypoint Missions from older controller to the New Smart Controller. You looked good doing your settings. A little practice works. Also DJI doing fine tune Waypoint update will help. Thanks Ken

Hi Russ When you used the C1 button did you have to define the C1 button so you can set waypoints manualy or is it a default setting requiring no action other than push the but ton
@51Drones5 жыл бұрын
That is the default

Can you keep a “point of interest” flight in a library task? That mode seems to be a smother flight.

Nope, but maybe they will add that someday.

I find the maps that you need to use on the controller through the Go4 App really poor in comparison to Google Maps which I’ve used previously when using Litchi with a different drone. I’m now upgraded to the Zoom with Smart controller and this is my biggest complaint so far. Is there a way I can get Google Maps on the Smart controller so I can use this when doing waypoints etc? Or is the only way to do this by using Litchi again?
