I m 51 years old born in december 1967. I trained 25 years in kickboxing and thaï boxing but at 47 i decided to switch to shotokan karaté in order to train longer and older. Now i m brown belt. Thus your experience sounds familiar to me. Learning karaté was complcated at first, but learning is always good. Osu from France

I started martial arts when I was 5 or 6. Started with Shotokan Karate, Then I moved away after 5 years, got to junior black belt. I learned quickly. Then when I moved I found a School called Zenbudo Karate. It was a mix of shotokan, Kung fu, aikido and some others. I did that for 7 years and got to black belt. In those 7 years though I fel in love with Aiki Jiu-jutsu. In Aiki we also did judo and Karate all mixed together. I did that all the way up until I couldn't do it anymore. I have tendinitis in both arms and arthritis in my back got too bad to continue my training. These series are amazing. Thank you for sharing these arts with us. I really miss it. In total I was in the arts for 25 years.

I've never seen kyokushin applied like this. It's usually two guys at about two inches distance throwing punches during sparring. Not a lot of footwork. This guy is good.

What I love about these videos that most people will never get is the ability you have to step out of your own comfort zone. To put ego aside & be willing to learn from others. That's the key! It's not the belt or rank any of us might have. That's just self serving ones ego. Its having the mindset to be open to continue to learn. Not just in martial arts but also in life. From cradle to grave life is a huge learning curb & beyond that reality more lessons are there to be learned. Expand. Live. Expand some more!

Another awesome episode. So many different arts, but it is so interesting to see the parallels and similarities between styles.

I love that many karate-ka's are so humble. Yet they can kick your ass with a smile. Such great human beings!! Another reason why I love martial arts :)

Exactly, they have kind of budo code that is lacking in other arts like wing chun where there is a lot more controversy

I hope this comes across right, but as a goshin jiu jitsu instructor who used to study karate it's lovely to see the old traditions and ways still being practiced and with a smile even better, thankyou sensei's, domo origatto , Clive Turner

The blocking technique that Shihan Tom is using was also taught by my Sensei ever since. I stop training at the moment but that blocking technique is natural to me. How I miss the training, but with IKA Kyokushin Ryu because my Sensei is already affiliated with that organization. OSU!

I love martial arts and I love how you have presented them in your videos and the interviews with the instructors i wish there were more videos i have seen them all but wish you would've taken southern praying mantis, hsing yi or bak mei to name a few because of their internal practices and also the aggressiveness and effectiveness in those systems...anyway i really liked your approach it was better than fight quest or human weapon. Hope to see more content in the future

Kyokushin Karate. Interesting hook (that gets people into their schools...over other styles of Karate). That it's the only traditional style that still does full-contact sparring. It just doesn't make any sense to me. In this day and age..with all the other full-contact arts available. Back in ancient times all Karate was full-contact. So I heard. That was how it was done. But we've "evolved". So have our bodies. We're "softer". We don't NEED to practice full-contact combat arts for survival (yes, that's debateable to some...unnecessary IMHO unless you're in LEO or the military...people who are more likely to find themselves in situations). IMHO if it's so bad in the area where you live..MOVE. If you can afford MA lessons and firearms training you can afford to move away ADD (you don't need to be an expert or have been in street fights to know.. when we are attacked it will almost never be "one on one" nor will the attacker be similar in size/strength/speed).. All "self-defence" is taught/trained for "one on one"). If one has some deep desire for full-contact (no idea why--risking perm brain/organ damage, handicapping or death) why not join a boxing gym? A system designed from the beginning and is practiced full-contact. Add, if this is a way out of poverty...no choice...But, if we have other choices....of hobby or income/survival...
