A big hello from Paris! Vive le vélo! A good 531 frame can still stand up to today. I've got two. One hell of a frame. It took pure genius and know-how to get the alloys just right, then build the beautiful machines of the time. They'll never build them like that, ever again. Oh well, let's hang on to our golden oldies. Thanks for posting this one. Lovely historic documentary.

I love this documentary. Thanks for posting. As well as the bicycles, the fleet of gandamerie BMW R100RS at the beginning made me smile too (I have one of those too)

They caught my eye, too. Plenty of us motorcyclists also love the human powered version, the Triumph facility in Hinckley has more cyclists than motorcyclists.

Ive ridden 18 minutes 10s on 531 steel. 531 is the best there is for 90% of riders both now and in the past

I have three bicycles with Reynold 531 tubing. A 1978 Raleigh Competition GS, a 1970 Falcon San Remo and a 1971 Peugeot PX10. I wonder how many forty year old carbon frame bikes will make it?

Well, I have a 21 year old bike with a carbon frame. I'll have to wait another 19 years to find out. No sign of rust yet : )

I'm guessing this film is sometime between 1978 & mid 1980s.

They still use Reynolds tubing with touring bikes, my 2009 Claude Butler Dalesman has 531 forks and a 631 frame.

Quite a few brands such as Colnago and De Rosa offer steel bikes to this day, made only to order in tiny quantities, and super expensive. There are also a number of small ‘boutique’ manufacturers using steel.
