i've ridden my 531 bike since the 70's, it's part of the family, & i know it's not going to snap in two and cost £1,000's if i come off. I'd have loved a 753 back in the day but like most of us couldn't afford it. I've also got another 2 531 frames (a walvale and bill hargreaves) from that time, the lugs on the walvale are amazing - they don't make 'em like that anymore.

I still ride steel. 853 these days. 753 was well out of my reach as a kid. The stuff of dreams back then! Any Reynolds-made frame was, I had a Peugeot racer, it could have well been made of iron! Early 10 speed!

I've got a Falcon Ernie Clements tourer with 531 throughout and Campag dropouts with adjusting screwes for the rear wheels from the 70s, a 1990 Peugeot mountain bike with 531 main tubes and Tange forks. Plus a Graham Weigh racing bike with the ultra rare 731 frame and Campag components. I love good quality steel framed bikes.

I luuuve old promos like this one!! This is the same music that was used for the classic WCW era pro wrestling from the 80's.. It was used for the show intro, and right before, and after commercials. I love the attitude of this video, and seeing all of the quality manufacturing that went into these frames.. ANNND... THE INTRODUCTION OF HOLY CHOME-MOLY!! THIS WAS A REALLY BIG DEAL IN BMX back in the 80's as well.. I still own 2 Redline bikes.. This is good stuff!😁

I had a Reynolds 853 Cross Bike. I really really needed money and had to sell it. I regretted the sale the moment the money was in my hand. I currently own a Reynolds 653 road bike. I love it!

Thanks for sharing this. Most adverts are prone to overhype and to be quite honest a fair bit of bullshit but I'm not so sure about this one. Thirty odd years later and a lot of these frames are still as good as the day they were manufactured and still providing as much enjoyment as they did back then, mine included. Great video and thanks again for giving us a glimpse of bike manufacturing history, it's much appreciated.

As a amature bike restorer & diyer I seem to generate more than a little scrap metal taking a small amount to the local scrap yard expecting mabe £5 or so what a seprise £27-50 on the way out saw a bike out of the corner of my eye quick look asked the guy how much £10 says he if you want it ill take it of the £27-50 , get it home and its 531 frame & fork, saka chain set, mavic rims & brakes top of range suntour group set rusty dirty looked like scrap now all done re sprayed new decals all polished looks a real classic 80,s road bike what a result saved for the future

is that Peter Purvis? my first serious bike in 1989 was a holdsworth road bike reynolds 531 professional, shimano105 groupset and wolber wheelset with hutchinson tyres gearing was 52/42 and i think it was seven or eight speed cassette, 23 tooth largest sprocket. i can not get up hills on those gear ratios today cost £500 i wish i had bought two, wonderful bike that took me into my cycling life over the years i have had aluminium and carbon bikes but steel is by far the best ride, its responsive, reliable and compliant. i love it thank you reynolds and thank you for this video guys

The last spartan, misplaced nostalgia, I have a Harry Quinn I bought in the sixties, at the time it was cutting edge, it still looks OK, not sure it would be rideable but whatever is said about modern equipment, it far exceeds vintage product, times change technology advances, it is natural for people to be nostalgic about product from their youth, but in truth it was and indeed is, not better than current product, as I said, misplaced nostalgia.

@@karlmylnere5712 well put, I always wanted a Harry Quinn as they where made in liverpool just down the road from me but could never afford one, so had an old Claud Butler mmmm nice and a lovely Carlton and a Sun Supalite, nice machines... and yes they where the best, but we must move on, I now have a modern Pinarello, no looking back but always looking for a good old british racer, happy cycling from ex pat in New Zealand :)

From now on, I'll associate Peter Purves not so much with Blue Peter, but more with "stiff, chunky, round-oval-round chain stays".
