Yet another great video Myriam! Love watching your videos!You mentioned wishing you could figure out a way to keep the white from coming through so much... I watched a video where the lady suggested that by using a thin layer of "tinted" resin (she used 2 different colors) and covering up the places where she dropped her color before putting the white down helped with the white dots a lot. Guess it helps keep the white from pushing through so far maybe? Hopefully this will be helpful to you as well. I've also watched resin pours where they've added an extra bit of clear resin in places where they wanted more depth or more of a "3D" look. Worked great for that too. TFS your talents with us!

Oh Myriam please don’t stop these tutorials...!! I love the alcohol inks and they do scare me a bit because of the white needed. Do you always have to use the white? And when you say you used ‘mica’ - did you mean the powder - which is what I have. I also have both Piñata and Ranger paints and some petal colors. I’m a jeweler by trade (well for the past 4 years...LOL) but now that I’m doing resin projects - I am loving it!! I started doing pressed flowers for cabachons then moved on to steam punk and now I’m doing UV resin with magnetic nail polish and magnets with color shifting paints and polishes. Very cool. But I have ALL this alcohol ink and I really want to learn how to unleash my inner-petri style and your videos are immensely helpful!! Plus I LOVE your LAUGHTER...!!!! :)) So please do more🙏 Thank you so much for sharing your time,talent,expense and expertise with us!! I just love your videos - wish I lived right next door to you...LOL!! Thanks again Myriam with a ‘Y’...😍
@MyriamsNature4 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan! The white alcohol ink need not scare you! When working with the inks in resin, the reason we need the white is in order to push the other colors down through the resin. Unlike the colors, which are dye based, the white is pigment-based and therefore heavier. If left alone the other colors would rarely sink and would usually just sit on the top surface. I sometimes add mica to some resin as a colorant, and to add a little shimmer. For that, ANY mica will do: Pearl Ex, mica for soap makers, old eye shadow... literally whatever you have on hand. Because it’s a dry medium you can add it liberally (though a little goes a long way). I’m happy to hear you’re having so much fun with resin. I wish you endless success with it! Happy art-ing! 😊💕 If you’re on FB, I’d love to have you join my group... there are a lot of alcohol ink and resin artists sharing their work, resources, etc. It’s a great place to ask questions, get inspired, and show off what you make. Neat stuff, Myriam! Funny how the blue flowed over the brown, or did the brown seep under the blue? What a conundrum! Now, I wonder what would happen if you introduced the inks using a needle tip or hypodermic applicator? Would you have better control over the amount of ink? I'm just wondering. I don't do anything with resin as yet, so I have to rely on you and others to do all the experimenting. Actually, I just don't have the space to do anymore than just paint some small abstracts with acrylic and some inks. Keep up the good work, always enjoyable to watch your videos.

Do you use any kind of mold release? My petries always stick. Also, does resin stick to freezer paper? ❤️
@MyriamsNature6 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda! Nice to see you again! I do not use any mold release but I do know that peach trees can stick. Here are three tips that will minimize that from happening: - limit using the torch to pop bubbles ... that is a big reason for the sticking problem... tried to let the bubbles pop on their own by letting the resin degas before starting to drop your inks. - If you start to release a petri and you find it seems to have stuck, pop the whole thing into the freezer for several minutes and then try to release it… chances are it will be easier to do - Warming the resin instead also helps .... so if freezing failed, put the whole thing in a bowl/bin/sink of warm to nearly hot water for a couple of minutes and then again try to release And finally, about the freezer paper… My experience is that resin doesn’t stick to freezer paper but sometimes it’s tricky to peel it off so I don’t love making resin skins on freezer paper for example. But for the most part freezer paper does not stick to resin. Garbage bags are better at releasing and any silicone mat would be ideal. I hope that helps a bit. 😊💕

I really wish I could tell you Will. They all seem to use the same exact pictures so there is no easy way to tell that I can see. It does seem to be the luck of the draw. What I would recommend to do is to order from a couple of different vendors... maybe three or four ( that’s what I did) . Luckily there is no shipping cost involved. You do have the option of contacting the vendors on eBay but not all of them answer right away. I’m sorry that I can’t be of more help. 😢

Hi again, 1st, can I have a slice of this delicious cake? I love the colors, and, I am sure it tastes as it looks. 2nd; Thank you for all the info that you provide me. I purchased the quick explanations from Debby, it is in ML, and when i asked a question, I was told again to purchase same. I am sure it is an error. However, I would like to ask you if I can use any acrylic paint for the pour,, or, should i purchase the special fluid acrylic paint for pouring. I started processing some of my painting on facebook. if you go and look for Judy, you will see me and very few from the 100's that i painted. None of them was pouring, which i am trying now. Thank you Myriam, you are carrying my mother's name, hers is with i.
@MyriamsNature6 жыл бұрын
Hi Judy… From your question I’m getting a sense that you’re asking more about acrylic pouring than this resin petri (which is alcohol ink and resin 😊 ). In acrylic pouring, any acrylic based paint or ink can work. In fact you can even mix and match them within the same painting… I do it often. The most important thing is that each of your individual colors has the same consistency/viscosity so that when you move your painting (e.g. tilt it or blow it) everything flows uniformly. As an example, I might have a painting where I used craft acrylic paint for my red, acrylic ink for my blue, and high end Golden heavy body paint for my yellow. As long as I use whatever “medium” I intend to use (for example Floetrol , or Liquitex pouring medium) to get each color to be about the thickness of warm honey I’m good to go. If you plan to sell your work you might want to make sure that every paint you use is lightfast so, for that reason, you might not want to use the craft paint because they are not usually rated as lightfast (some very well might be but most don’t let you know that on the bottle so we’re never really sure). I hope that that answer is what you were looking for. 😊💕 It’s nice to know the name Miriam has meaning to you!

I know this is an older video, but I wonder about shaving down the backside of the pieces that had “too much white” to see if the mid level is more interesting for a piece of art/jewelry. Always appreciate your videos. Your instruction, and in this case your trials are informative and helpful. I doubt that I will every play with “resin” for anything! However, it is nice to know the information is here if I change my mind. Some art materials just are too expensive to play with. I look at just how much paint, ink, paper, etc. I could purchase with those funds; and for me, this just doesn’t fit into my daily art needs.

I'm glad I found your channel. Very informative and you made some gorgeous pieces. I've been playing with techniques to prevent having some much white on the back of my resin art pieces and I've found that allowing the resin to rest for a while (I also use CC 7050) until it gels a bit. I get beautiful results but the white doesn't sink nearly as much as it does if you add the inks when the resin is more fluid.
