That was total luxury. The ride, handling, comfort was incredible. There is not one car today that can compare to the Cadillacs back then.

They sure were-but people back then said the same thing you're now saying when this generation came out in model year 1971. They said the '71-'76 quality and luxury really fell off from the previous models. That these were glorified Chevy Caprices. That the '70 model year represented the "last real Cadillacs." It's all relative, I guess.

To me 1969 and 1970 are the most disappointing years when it comes to the interior. It must have been somewhat of a turnoff to go from a 1968 to a 1969. 1971 and 1972 were better, but still not quite to my liking, as the 1973 was, which I liked very much and enjoyed for years. 1974 is somewhat in between both when it comes to the interior and exterior, followed by the pinnacle years 1975 and 1976, with 1975 having the nicest grill. The interior the last two full-size years is very very nice. My 1978 Fleetwood 75 was also a really nice car. It only lacked being a full-size. Brett Wilkins - a drove a 1974 Caprice Classic hardtop sedan for a while. What a great and beautiful car. It is in mint condition with the present owner today.

@@jameswillett7186 Excellent point. As a teenager my old man co signed for me a 72 Malibu. I loved the bench seat and remember a girl I was dating sitting right next to me as I was driving. Those were great fun days of my youth. Luckily enough however I kept the old Chevy. I could never part with a car that I use to have way too much fun with.

From Australia, I've owned for 38years a sable black with "gold" interior (mustard color) '74 Fleetwood Talisman has all but 3 options no door thermometre, no opera lights on the roof pillars & no sunroof, and delete all name badge scripts, it looks very discrete. It does however have 3 of the most rare options ACRS GM's early airbag system, the GM AC Delco ABS brake system, plus Sentinel Security anti theft system. Ordered new at his local Opel dealer's in Osnabruk Germany & at 5 yrs of age shipped to Sydney Australia, I've owned it since it was 9yrs old, I've loved it & looked after it , bought with 102,000ks on it , it is the opposite of your car Joe, mine now has in june 2021, 706,000ks on it serviced with no regard to cost as a business car I have charged its operating costs to tax, 25 years ago a friend whom teaches apprentices to paint specialty cars painted it for me with 5 base coats of glazurit 2pak in black it looks better than when new as better quality paint to show car standard. It has zero squeaks nor rattles & as an export spec car it has NONE of the US smog gear on it , so it has the power of a 1960's 8litre muscle car ITS FANTASTIC, I loved it so much 7years after buying it I bought a cotillion white with "green Ice" brocade & leather interior trim '72 Fleetwood Brougham it has half or less the mileage of the black one & also was a export spec full power engine car too, this one being via GM Holden division in Australia. I prefer the round headlights as the "dim" 70's light bulbs can be swapped for way way brighter options. Heavily specked ones of these particularly with the ABS option & traction control options transform the handling of these cars & the ABS brake system developed in conjunction with GM's AC Delco division & Bendix Aviation saw the development and modification of a brake system fitted to a small executive jet complete with its complex analogue computer and many sensors. Go flying a host of small luxury jets & when you land this is what stops you they were altered to suit & be fitted to the biggest heaviest GM "-D-" body cars of all time the giant '71 to '76 wagons & in the Caddy division the Fleetwood 60's & 75's. They stop short, true straight & dead in a distance well less than any modern car in fact almost scary quick , from 65/70 mph to zero in about 100feet passengers have been shocked & disturbed several times over the years, but no damage to the fabulous black Caddy. The brakes when applied like this make your stomach feel like its about to exit via you mouth , like in a super high speed lift that's travelled 30 floors then suddenly stops in a nanosecond , your body is simply not prepared for it. Quality technology that still works , same as GM's wonderful airbag technology we are all still using today. With the near complete options packs & the extra weight of all these goodies & the long range whoppa fuel tank, the big hot climate & high altitude cooling systems which are near identical (as when at a higher altitude water boils at a lower temperature) my black '74 weighs in at just over 5800lbs !! with no people in it & no luggage !!. These Fleetwood's are way better than most people think.

I had a 75. A lovely car. I got 16 mpg in town and 21 highway on that 500 cubic inch engine. The secret was rod out the catalytic converter, keep the speed under 60 m.p.h. and "lead the motor" by letting up slightly on the gas petal when you reach cruising speed. God, thank you for letting me enjoy that experience! I still dream about that ride, 40 years later.

I agree with you 100 percent show the whole car inside and out. My Grandfather bought one new in 1976. It was Red outside and red inside vinyl top was white and it was a 4 door sedan. When he past in 1993 had only 40 thousand miles on it and was sold at his Estate Sale. It sold for 5 thousand to a cop who still owns it.

I agree that with this video we need to see what the car looks like, otherwise I'm just wild about the year 1976, because the full size lineup from GM was big at its best, they may not be fuel efficient, but at least they were the most comfortable cars you could enjoy driving, not to mention that that was what waited for you in the showroom not an overdose of SUV, pickups, and everything else that has taken away from the fun of car shopping, even to drive by the dealership and look in the lot, there isn't squat, there's cars there, but not the variety we've been used to, that's why cars need to have style, & stand out from the crowd

With a caddy the HP didn't tell the whole story. My grandpa's 1976 Eldorado had 210 hp but 425lb ft of torque. It didn't rev much so off the line it was brisk at best but you were pinned to the seat. 30-70mph she woke up and could easily merge with Los Angeles road rage freeways. At 65 mph she was turning 1100rpm dead silent even up hills. They were built for highways.

A brief but smooth and quiet ride. The car is a bit unusual in that it is not equipped with factory cruise control. The switch for it would normally be to the right of the A/C control panel.

Bill Robbins -- You are 100% correct! Hard to believe that Cadillac built this car with out cruise control. The three switch's on the right side of the steering wheel were for the Sunroof, rear defrost & the power antenna. This is a very rare car by not having factory cruise control.

I once owned this great car so I know it well-----Most of these large Cadillacs were sadly downsized into boxed shaped nothings after that year, except for the Eldorado, which was kept until 1978, when it was also downsized because of the seventies gas shortage and economic concerns .!

The grand finale was a 95 De ville with 80000 with 3 tranny rebuilds because the tranny was undersized 2 water pumps bad serpentine belts with tensioner 2 repairs for that ,1 ac compressor 1 distributor, 1 radiator replacement all in 2 year!! And other repairs that could be considered maintenance. Cadillac style. Looked nice sitting in the driveway.
