I told my daughter a few months ago that I was buying for Thanksgiving and Christmas so I could be sure to have the traditional dinners I fix. She started doing that too. Looks so delicious! I have chocolate chips and bars of chocolate that I keep in the veggie drawer of the frig. They are way past the expiration date and I am still using them. They are just fine and taste just fine. Like you said, they're too expensive to not use up.

Hi Gay glad to see you. The cans actually say Best Buy not expiration. Best Buy as you know they loose vitamin little by little. I don’t know about you but there never used to be a Best Buy date. I made this cake last week for my friends, we go out for supper on Wednesday after church, so I make a cake each week to share, Well I made this one, anyway they loved it. I am making an Eclair cake Friday for something Saturday at Church. I don't know what I will make for next Wednesday. Now on this cake, I melted a can Of Chocolate frosting 30 seconds , then just added 1 cup of pecans. Easy Peasy.

Hello from British Columbia, Canada! 👋This looks so good! 😋Here's an easy cake recipe my sister got from her Mother-In-Law. I think the name of this cake is Lazy Black Forest Cake. Spray a 9x13 pan, pour a can of cherry pie filling in the bottom of the pan, top with mini marshmallows then mix up a chocolate cake mix as it tells you on the back of the box, then pour on top of the cherries and marshmallows and bake for the amount of time it tells you on the cake mix box. Serve with vanilla ice cream. This is so good! 😋

I totally agree. It's very rude for someone to be on their phone while visiting with you. When I go visit my dad I'm there to spend time with him. I grew up when there were no cell phones or computers. While I do love the internet where I can research and chat with other people that are interested in the same things, I do miss the days when life was simpler. Eh, everything has its pros and cons I guess, but people need to be more present with those around them. I definitely want to try this cake. I actually have a box of cake mix in the cabinet that I wasn't sure what to do with since I don't have any frosting for it. This sounds good. I just need to pick up a couple of things like the cherries and evaporated milk. I think I'm going to use walnuts instead of pecans though. Thank you Gay for another recipe. 🥰

I so agree with you and those stupid phones. I had to do away with my landline a couple of weeks ago, because they jumped my price out of reality. The woman from the phone company told me they are trying to do away with landlines. I work with a young woman who has four kids. She spends $400/ week on groceries, and not one bit of it is for her pantry. What more can I say?

This is a lot like Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake which we love at Christmas. Just use 1 tsp. almond extract instead of vanilla in the cake and leave out the nuts in the icing. It is so good!

Gay, just use the vanilla, plenty more where that came from, got one batch going, first time in 25 years I am not to sure about, all others are ok but this one particular one, I don't know, has to be the beans (matter of fact I know it is the beans), going to leave it for now but rethinking where I buy beans from I buy them by the pound, I am the vanilla queen I know my process and know beans, companies get big and forget about quality. I am stocking up on cooking supplies, always well stocked. I like you hate those cel phones, I will not even text, nothing annoys me more than talking to some one and they are more engaged in the phone, I walk away. I have nuts in the freezer that are years old also. The cooler weather finally found us, thank heavens, I thought I was going to melt Sunday, I am thinking about hauling the canner out and making some relish as I am on my last one. Coal miners cake, never heard of that one, looks divine, bet it is good warm.

If you seal them airtight they should last a long time. I would say indefinitely.....just try one and see. I have used frozen stuff several years in the freezer.
