Curmudgeon Transmission

Күн бұрын

2006 Jeep Cherokee. 17 days later the PCM shows up and it fixes the problem of killing the engine in drive. While looking at the wiring to make sure it had no problems we did come across 2 computer grounds on the back of the heads and attached on the bulkhead, that were severely corroded and fell apart when we touched them. These grounds are critical and may be a reason the pcm went bad. Clearances UD: .040-.068, OD: .030-.063, Rev: .023-.058, 2C: .039-.065, 4C: .030-.055, LR: .046-.082
End play .004-.020

Hardly ever. They look like that. If it is turning one direction smoothly and holding the other then it is probably good.

Hi Tom I’m rebuilding my 545rfe and I’m wondering if it’s necessary to remove the Belleville plate from the low reverse drum. Are there any parts that need to be replaced? Thanks, appreciate your channel!
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 6 ай бұрын
Thanks. No need to take it out. If you do you will wish you had not. Nothing in there to replace unless it is broken.

Tom, I've been using your video to rebuild a 45rfe. On the first drum that goes into the transmission body has two little holes in it on the bottom. On my breakdown only one hole had a black breather. Would there be one in each hole? Thank you for the video it was very informative.

Not sure if I am 100* on what you are saying. There is a bleed hole with a screened orifice that faces towards the rear of the transmission. The only other hole is a feed hole that faces towards the valve body and no nothing goes in that hole. There is a rubber seal on the valve body that seals that. Hope that helps.
@AdamLeeJ12

Yes I saw you called it a feed hole. Got it together and done. Hopefully it works lol. Thank you.

Whats the part number from Sonnax for the TCC limit on the pump body. theres 2 or 3 shuttle valves on that pump. Are they all the same part number? Was looking to change all the springs out while rebuilding. Thanks
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 3 жыл бұрын
No they are all different. Sonnax TCC Accumulator springs 44912-01, TCC limit spring 44912-02 although for this one I would do the Transgo RFE-TCC-ACCUM. They don't offer the others without having to buy reamers to ream it for larger valves. The two I gave you are the ones that usually cause problems.

I believe you installed the stepped pressure plate that goes between the UD and OD clutch upside down. The step is supposed to go to the OD clutch not the UD clutch, right?
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 2 жыл бұрын
Both sides have a step. The narrow step goes to the OD. Some even have ID marks on them on that side. If I had put it upside down, not only would it have been difficult to get the snap ring in, it would not have worked correctly.

I notice in all the 45/5-45/68RFE videos throughout the internet nobody checks the end play.. front or rear..let alone the OD clearances ect. is that never an issue? I have never even seen different size selective spacers for sale anywhere....
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 3 жыл бұрын
I have never had endplay problems and only clutch clearance problems a couple of times, that was because they sent the wrong stuff. There are a few transmissions they don't even give clearances for them, they figure as long as you are using what it is supposed to have your clearance will come out correctly. Usually on this transmission if you are going to have a clearance problem it will be with the underdrive or overdrive clutches. I don't break out the gauge very often as I have gotten to where I can tell if it is right by eye and I can feel if end play is right when I turn the shaft.

What special tools, do you need to rebuild the 545rfe transmission?
@CurmudgeonTransmission
@CurmudgeonTransmission 3 жыл бұрын
The only thing I would call special would be be the 2 torx bits, 25 and 30 , the snap ring pliers , something to compress the springs in the drums and a long screwdriver helps but not a must.
