I don't remember if I saw the horse owner video before or after. I started this but it just kind of clicked and made total sense. Ps the t-shirt has arrived at my house. Now I have to get them out to you.🪱😃👍🏼

I made an effort to keep the bins on the drier side this year and I make LARGE batches of bedding these days. I'm going through 10 gallons of bedding a week now that it's been warm... they're just churning through bedding like crazy.
@PlantObsessed3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is crazy how much they go through in the summer.

I keep my bins a little damp early then dry as bin finishes. I live where it's dryer so not an issue. I too am going through 10-20 gallons of prepped bedding a week.

Excited to see Blue progress into this next phase! Doing basically the same with 1 outside bin. The other doing lasagna layers of garden / kitchen waste and carbon. Because a Sunchoke and several potatoes decided to grow that I thought were too rotten. So it the second bed became a root/worm bed 😆!

Glad you bins are doing good. My worms grow things with out permission too lol

Great feeding Ann. Sucks that the rat messed your bins up. But good for us you get to explain again how and why you are setting up your bin. Don’t think I will ever get up to 10 pounds of worms but you never know.

@@PlantObsessed this is just about exactly how I handle my 50 gallon worm tote in my basement. constant sifting of the top layer works out really well. Whatever does not go through the sifter is added to inoculate the bedding that is "curing"

I like the bin. Also, really like the sifter. Have you seen it to be useful and works well sifting?

I have the sifters in my pin comment above. They have lasted for 5 years of sifting everything from gravel to worm castings.

@@PlantObsessed Wow, thats really amazing. I like that they are small. They would work well for my small bins and not having to move a large sifter around. Thanks for the help.

The bin and castings look wonderful Ann! I would keep my bin moist, but due to white mites, I have to leave it on the dry side...rather annoying that. I heard the reds tend to stay alive longer on the hook when fishing. I was feeding my bin today and noticed the same thing when it comes to the size of my reds. I was worried, but you made me feel better about it. I think this is my favorite bin to follow.

As much fun as it is to see big fat worms, I know they will shrink down due to my environment in a generation. I have read that worms fed compost and food only live longer. That give me some solace.

One more question. I have taken 5o feeding quite often. Once a day. Small things along the sides. It's a big deep bin. The set up is young since I got back to a mouse cleaned out system. They all see good when I do alittle moving I am not turning perse just little lifts. I had added perhaps 1500 worms. Is there any reason so many of the tube worm folks feed so infrequently It is very satisfying to visit them daily

Many people have full time jobs and young families. Not enough time in a day. I go peek at mine on the weekends.

Quick question. I have many dried lily flowers would they be good to add to the bedding It might be good to crumble them but it's very nice material I'll try it I'll let you know I have them because I photographed them so I get new lilies every week and then take pictures

I feed my spent orchid flowers,leaves all house plant waste to the worms. I would think it would be ok.
