I work in a nursing home and I had this lovely pleasantly confused elderly lady who grew up in Germany and later lived the rest of her life in Canada. It was the end of August and she said to me “Summer is over and I never made my potato salad my mother taught me.” So I asked her for the ingredients and my co worker and I brought them in the next day and she taught me how to make the best potato salad I have ever had. I now call it after her, Renee’s Potato Salad. My mother and her ancestors always made mashed potato salad which I never really cared for but was traditionally made in our area. Renee’s potato salad recipe is not far off of your beautiful recipe. I so enjoyed this video and wished a was able to be with you in person and learn hands on from the best!

My grandmother made the best cole slaw. She used a small head of cabbage and one carrot. She ran both of those through her blender with some water until they were grated up very small. Drained the water off in her cone shaped strainer/smasher for making jelly. She added 5-6 green olives stuffed with pimentos diced small. Added mayonnaise and maybe a half teaspoon of sugar. I finally learned how to make it like hers. The first time I used a whole small jar of olives. Hahaha 😂Bleck!! My mom enlightened me on that. God bless you and thanks again. I am 67.

Granny Pat is a hoot! Her expressions remind me a lot of my own dear departed Mother. She, too, LOVED mayonnaise and used in a whole bunch of strange ways. She would make a grilled cheese sandwich in butter and peel it apart to spread Mayo on hit. She put a teaspoon or so on a serving of jello. She used so much of it we would ask her after a visit to her doctor if he found her mayonnaise levels a quart low. Miracle Whip was a no no for potato or macaroni salad. (She did keep a jar of it around for her son-in-law and granddaughter to use on their sandwiches). Granny Pat’s Potato Salad is a lot like ours minus the carrots and green pepper. We always chop our eggs - grating them is a new option. That I will try. Keep up the good work, Grannies Pat! Gramma Ruthie would have enjoyed watching you.

Granny Pat- I love your presentations and you remind me of my own grandma who taught me how to cook they very same way you teach. At my grandma's funeral her sister in law told me during the depression my grandma could make a feast out of hardly nothing. My grandma was a farm woman and cooked with a wood fired cook stove and an old ice box non electric and when she moved to town she told me to have gas and electricity was like dying and going to heaven. She taught me how to cook most everything I still make and I am almost 75 myself. Please do a meatloaf show I would like to see your version. My grandma always made me meatloaf as she knew it was my favorite with cole slaw and green beans. Much love-Robert in Portland Oregon

Your potato salad is nearly like I make mine. The differences are I do not use carrots in mine. I take a little jar of pimientos for color instead. Also, I too use mustard to color things up a bit. Instead of sweet pickles, I use swee pickle rellish, and since I do like my potato salad tart, I use Miracle Whip instead of mayo. If I am out of that, I use a little sugar, apple cider vinegar and regular mayonnaise to get the sweet/tart flavor. I have used my grandmothers potato salad ingredients forever, and am so used to the flavor, I find store/deli bought potato salad too bland. It was fun watching you do potato salad your way. Thank you.
@jgriffin282 Жыл бұрын
One thing my mom used to sharpen the flavour was sweet pickle juice. Or from bread and butter pickles. A little sweet and sharp.
@MsSavagechef Жыл бұрын
Miracle Whip is too sweet and so is pickle relish. Sounds like you are aiming for the opposite of tart.
@dochubbell Жыл бұрын
@@MsSavagechefActually, if you taste test mayo and Miracle Whip, you will notice mayo is rather bland, and Miracle Whip has a distinct tang to it. With the mustard and the vinigar I use in my recipe, it really ends up with a tart flavor. The sweet relish and a couple teaspoons of sugar, tones down the vinegar and salad dressing. It all hinges on the quanity of each ingredient you measure out and trust me, if done right, you can taste the tang.

I agree with you, Granny Pat, I like my potato salad when it’s first made before it gets cold in the refrigerator. After it’s cold, I sometimes let mine (just my portion) sit for a little bit before I eat it. I use boiled eggs, Duke’s mayo, a small amount of Miracle Whip, sweet pickle relish (or chop up bread and butter pickles sometimes), red onion (when I have it, or Vidalia onions), one rib of celery, about a teaspoon of celery seed (because the taste is more concentrated in the seed and I like the taste), a little sugar, a little of the pickle juice, sometimes red bell pepper (diced finely) and a little salt (to balance the sweetness). Sounds like a lot of ingredients but my husband and I like the way it tastes. I don’t make it as often as I used to because I don’t really eat white potatoes anymore but I do make potato salad for my husband.

I can't believe that I just today discovered your channel! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute watching...for the recipe, your Fall decorations and your sense of humor woven in. I think we'd be great friends. I, too, have more than one 'junk' drawer with things I can never find but know they're in there somewhere. Keep cooking and I'll sure keep watching.

She reminds me of my beloved Aunt Mary.. She loved to cook and her cooking was so delicious!.. We received word that she went to Heaven today.. 😪 Out of nowhere Miss Pats videos appear on my recommended.. As I watch her cook and listen to her talk, I feel my broken heart receiving a comforting warmth.. 🥺 ❤ Thank You So Much 💜

Looks delicious. I never thought to put carrots and pepper in potato salad. I will try making your recipe- thank you! The malnourished chicken had me laughing out loud! 😂😂😂😂

I have always added carrots to my potato salad. They work best if grated. I think you will like them and they add color to your dish.

I’m mesmerized. And I don’t even like potato salad! My mom cooked like this. Every day. I never learned because she never let us in the kitchen while she was working. She passed away at 95 in 2021. I miss her terribly. I should have filmed her baking and cooking. This video comforts me! And don’t you dare touch that clock! I love the ticking!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Just found your channel and I must say, I fell in love with ya. You cook just like I do. Just throw it all together, not much measuring. That's the way my grandma taught me over 40 years ago and I must say, I have never had any complaints about my cooking. Thats good home cooking! I too am a strictly mayonnaise person. No salad dressing in this kitchen. Now I gotta go do some binge watching of your channel. New subbie here. Thank you grandma.

You sound like my kind of cook. You would have loved watching my mother in the kitchen - messy but very productive.

You don't talk too much. My first time seeing your video and you had me feeling that I was in the house with you. Two friends talking about stuff and making potato salad. I hadn't planned on watching all 49 minutes but your personality is so pleasing I stayed. I love your chandelier! Oh, and I didn't hear any ticking of the clock at all. Thanks for making videos!

This looks perfect. The only thing I would do different is add small jar of drained diced red pimentos. For more blended color and flavor

She looks like and sounds like a very sweet Granny. I miss my both of my Grannies so much. They’ve been gone a very long time now. I’m subbing for not just recipes but for her too. ♥️

Granny Pat, I believe those big mugs are called steins. Very nice fall setting on your table. You are a joy to watch.

Yes, you are correct. Steins! I get off track occasionally and say the wrong thing. Sometimes I forget completely and then, as the song goes, ‘a little bird tells me’!

Really loved the potatoes salad presentation! I shared this video on my Facebook. Potatoes salad Is my favorite. I really thought your table fall decor was beautiful! Love that rooster that you had for 20 years! To answer your question at the end: I don’t think you talk a lot. Glad to find you on here to watch more!
