BIG-SERT by Time-Sert M8 X 1.25 Oversize Thread Repair Kit # 5812. I am not a fan of this repair tool, but I am not sure if there is a better repair tool out there. This is what I used in this video:

Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. I´m so with you on everything you say. I too built my house, my garage and an separate house for a recording studio on my grounds. Most of it by myself. Why? because "the experts" rob you and leave you with a ton of problems. I´m thinking milling that top part down but how to get the tool on there, square? Wow, what a mess. I was so glad to see you put up another video and then it ends like this. I can only hope you/we can find a solution to this.

I too thought “this can’t be real”. It’s like the world is against me on this project. Tasos (of course) has a great idea. Instead of trying to mill it down, why not use a simple countersink drill bit and just countersink that flange? It makes sense. I’ve used them in wood all the time.

Think that could work. Just be careful not mess up the first thread. Maybe try to use a wide-enough countersink.

Oh man - feeling your pain brother! Don't give up! As for ideas: I assume you cannot shave down the big-sert so that it's flush? Or, can you use one of those defective tools to bore out a corresponding opening on the timing cover so that it'll sit flush?

This guy seems like a know it all. Granted he did do a professional job but what other tool was in his bag of options after someone messed the job up? They got back to him right away and offered up an alternative.
