57 Chevy Hits The Streets For The First Time In 30 Years!

The Challenger had me down and it was time for a win! Wheels and Tires always make me happy, so that's the direction I headed. The 57 BelAir had a brand new set of Cragar Wheels just begging to be mounted, and what a difference they made! You can't go wrong with a set of Cragar SS wheels on any old Hot Rod. The Challenger needed a "new look" to keep me motivated so a set of steelies with dog dish caps went on. It was love at first site! This old Dodge might be a keeper....
Once all the lugs were torqued down, it was time to take that beautiful 57 Chevy for a drive. It looks great with the fancy new wheels, it runs great with the self tuning EFI, it's comfortable inside with its fully updated interior, not to mention all the rust repair so you know it's safe. This old Hot Rod is going to be hard to give away once we meet the goal of 57 000 subscribers.

I've been a fan of Cragar for years - 40 years ago I knew a guy who had a 68-ish big Dodge 2 door with Kustom Klassics on it ... still my favourite wheels.

really enjoy watching your videos, it brings back lots memories of my teen years. I was 14 when my brother gave me his 57 Bel Air when he joined the US AF in 1967. He wasn't a car guy or mechanically talented. I changed out interior using 1967 Camaro bucket seats and recovered back bench seats and carpet. My grandparents recovered furniture and they helped me with this effort. I spruced up this black 57 with Chrome wheels and Goodyear white letter tires. I replaced the 235 straight 6 with an 327 - 300 HP engine and 4 speed out of a wrecked 64 Vette. I then installed a Hurst shift kit, Holley 780 Carb, Edlebrock High Rise and Hooker headers capped with Thrush mufflers. When by brother finally came home after 3 tours flying missions over Vietnam from Guam and Okinawa he couldn't believe that is was the same car. I also modified 1955 Chevy 4 door Wagon into a dragster in my late teens but that is another story. Keep up the good work!

@@DDSpeedShop It got me around. I never upgraded the rear end, the 57 was not very robust. Lost several axle and ring gears, I also sheared off several wheel studs when I upgraded rear tires to wider series. But it was dependable always started and ran. I don't miss vacuum wind shield wipers and no AC during TX summers.

Remember the Coats 20? When did you do tire work? I did it full time for my dad at Mid-State Tire in TN from 88-91. We did tire truing and on the car balancing. In between real jobs I worked at Wal-Mart in the Tire and Lube Center in 2002. They had the new style tire changers and computer balancing. (Not always better)

I haven't heard that one in awhile. Remember alpa-numeric tire sizes? Like N-50s? Most ppl think a 50 is wider than a 60 or 70. The width on metric tires is exactly that a 245 is a 245. A 245/50/15 is 50% as wide as it is tall, while a 245/60/15 is 40% as wide as it is tall. Same width but taller overall diameter.

Tim, I agree on rims....have been trying to find a SET (5) of same HD police/taxi steelies, but in 15x8 size. They were Aspen/Volare' era factory- smooth center ring (no bumps to hold poverty caps), used on Kit Car and Super Coupe models. Heavy, but cool for modern performance tires on ANY Mopar, Ford, and AMC.

I’ve been watching since the first episode. Everything you’ve done on this machine is gonna make you cry. You’ll get to the end and you may not want to give her up! She’s absolutely beautiful! Cragar mags have always been the best you could ever get. When I came home from Vietnam I was gonna spend every dime I had for a ‘56 Chevy and polish her out. Bright chrome and candy apple red. Yeah, I know... that’s not a combination anyone but me would ever choose... what can I say, I’m a sick bastard! All that distraction aside, you are really doing a fabulous job on this car. That's one fantastic tire changer. Thanks for showing it. If you want to get rid of the hornets, wait until the sun is down and take a large garbage bags, spray the inside with raid. Now you can walk up to the hive as they will all be in it. Put the bag around the nest and break it off. Tie up the bag. Job done. That's how I have removed numerous hives. Works great.
