I always hated doing keyhole slots with my router. BUT I have always did vertical keyholes. Switching to horizontal from now on. Thank you for the tip.

Not sure if anyone has already caught this, but the "Home (noun)" sign has a misspelling for the sword "story" (stoy)

On the plywood signs with the brown paint, spray the shellac on before carving the letters. That way you have the better looking top coat finish without the letters getting the shellac corrupting the insides. Overall, great job and excellent tutorial.

Jay, I LOVE the Shellac comment. I’m a flag maker and have been using sparky cans of finish because I didn’t want to have to continually clean out an HVLP sprayer. I am absolutely going to take your suggestion and set up a Shellac only HVLP station for finishing my flags. These little nuggets are why I love your videos.

Glad to hear that. It's a super inexpensive option if you go with a cheap harbor freight gravity gun if you have a decent compressor. It's incredibly convenient.

Excellent video. Really wish I had a CNC. Loved the tip on uniform sizing for the signs, many would not think of that and just use the 'scrap piece'. The roundover front and back is also an excellent tip, and the keyhole direction...genius.

The signs all looked great. I'll never have a CNC machine, but I enjoyed listening to you explain the process. Did you design these signs? There was certainly a lot of creativity exhibited in these many designs. I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

$2 !!! and even then they didn't all sell... huh.
@JayBates2
@JayBates2 3 жыл бұрын
I think the main factor for them not selling was the limited time and the heat. Everyone was moving quickly with the heat and most everyone who stopped by got at least one. I'd say if the weather wasn't so hot and we stayed open longer they would have all been gone.

maybe the coffee signs are too main stream? tried to sell some of my turned wooden bowls at a family garage sale once, after 3 days of no one looking at them was told that even if I was way under pricing my work people going to garage sales are looking for deals
@JayBates2
@JayBates2 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, garage sale shoppers are looking for deals. That's the biggest takeaway I've found. I'm not a big garage sale shopper so I don't have much experience with the customer base.
@JDeWittDIY

@@JayBates2 Garage sale goers are definitely looking for deals. I'd guess something in the order of 10-20% of retail. That's "of" retail, not "off" retail.

I am looking to upgrade my cnc and was curious if you had an update on preference between axiom vs avid. I will be getting a 2x3 or 4x2 size and was curious if there was any difference in quality of product, ease of calibration, need for recalibrations, and speed of machine’s cut time. Thanks for your help.

Love this idea. Not to be critical but isn't there a typo on the Psalm 46:10 sign? I believe it should read "Be still and know that I am God" not "Be still and "I" know that I am God".

Super interesting, thanks Jay! I know nothing about running a CNC so here is a naive question: Could you paint a full sheet, carve it full of signs and then cut them up and do the edges afterwards? Feels more productive, but I'm sure I'm missing something?
