In this Microsoft Access tutorial, you will learn about using an option group. Option groups have many uses, including selecting an option from a list. In today's example, we're going to use it to track which step we're on in a series of procedures for a medical patient.
Emily from Southaven, Mississippi (a Platinum Member) asks: I have a series of forms and procedures that need to be performed for each of my patients, in order. How can I keep track of the current step I'm on? Right now, I use a notes field but it isn't very efficient, especially when I might not see the patient for weeks and need to figure out where I left off. Is there a way to have some sort of indicator or system that will automatically help me keep track of where we're at?

I usually use the value 0 for 'non defined' or 'unknown' values and I change the color of the option selected.

Hey Richard, had a random thought today that it would be great for you to do something that touches on how computing power is used for access databases in a network environment. Obviously on a local system the machine cpu will do all the grunt work but what about on a network where the back end is located on a server and front end resides on local user machine? What happens locally? What happens on the server? What should users and devs consider? I thought this would be quite interesting to hear you talk about this.

Please do not spoil valuable time in video with topic 'Using Option Groups in Microsoft Access' to show how to format elements in the form - that is clearly offtopic and basic knowledge, so it belongs into a different video! However it would have been nice to show how to use the value from the Option group - I searched it in the label instead of the group-frame....
