When cap logos press through the inside of the cap, they cause discomfort and marks on the forehead. This method allows you to relieve some of the pressure by flattening out the inside of the cap under the logo.

I needed this video and this technique so bad. After purchasing four hats in the past few weeks, I kept having to use your break in technique multiple times. I finally narrowed down the problem to exactly what you described in the video ( all my caps except a few are Dodgers). My experiment with flipping the front crown side of the hat jack, so the flared end was touching the offending stitching, worked, but it takes attention to detail so as not push the front panel of the cap way out of shape in the concentrated area of pressure. Your technique here is much more forgiving and targeted. Thank you again!

Thanks for all your experiments with the 59fifty. Thanks to you, all my caps (all major league teams) that I though looked good, now I’ve had to redo! You and you “softening of the crown”🤣👍🏻❗️ But it’s been great for me. I only have a few more to shape! To your credit, mine fit and look better. Still trying to get the brim shape better for me because the edge of both sides of my 59fifty’s dig into the sides of my forehead causing red marks and headaches and soreness. I can heat those edges and bend them down slightly for comfort but when the cap sits for a period of time, it’s just goes back to the original shape. I’ll keep trying though and will welcome any advise that you might have.

I have the same red spot and discomfort from 5950 caps but it has nothing to do with the logo. It's the stitching that attaches the band/liner to the cap. If you pull that down on the front of the cap you can feel some hard rough stitching and that presses through the band onto my forehead. It's fairly smooth all the way around the cap but the worst part is in the very front. I have cut the stitching as short as I can and used tape as an extra padding but it's still not ideal. You would think that they could design the cap stitching different to where the bulkiest part of the stitching isn't right against your forehead.

Quick question....lately, I've been having a hard time trying to get more comfort out of my caps. I have done your technique and haven't had much success. My caps are all made in USA. Do you see better results with China-made caps? I'm thinking of going to all wool caps for comfort!
@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 4 жыл бұрын
The main drawback of the Made in USA caps is that they always had a "ridge" of stitching under the seam tape - it can really dig in on your forehead. The imported caps almost always have flat seam tape, and that includes the Dodger cap in this video. I made a direct comparison between M-USA and Asia caps in this video, go check it out for more detail, and thanks... kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6GpaWqPpLJrrck

Hey Doug, is this the rubberised logo or the stitched one? If you remember on a previous video I had this problem with the cubs spring training pro light. I think I would be scared of the rubber logo falling off.
@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 6 жыл бұрын
This is a stitched logo in the video, and I agree with you... I probably wouldn't expose those Prolight logos to this much heat. Even if it is adhesively bonded, excess heat can sometimes change the properties of an adhesive. That's just my educated guess, and I would only try it if I did not care about the hat. Maybe this is another reason why stitched logos are better - thanks for the question.

@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 Жыл бұрын
That's probably coming more from the sweat than cardboard - New Era visors today start out white because they are a blend between plastic resin and paper fiber. I've done a video series with the Captician and you can find the videos on my channel page... I did one on visor construction and another on spot cleaning, also did a video for more general cap cleaning, thanks.

So I’ve got a similar situation. I have a Rangers 59Fifty that was really poorly stitched resulting in a large bump right on the inside of the hat where the two front panels meet. Do you have any tips to help flatten this spot out because the hat is practically unwearable due to how uncomfortable this predicament makes it?
@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 6 жыл бұрын
That is a tough one, and I think I have the same condition on a couple of hats. If it is the vertical seam between the two panels (covered by the 59Fifty branded seam tape), I don't have a good remedy for that yet. Some of my caps are very flat there, while on others the stitching is very high and ends up making a vertical mark on my forehead. Now I always look for flat seam tape in this area, if I'm trying on caps in a store. Sorry I can't help out, if I come up with something I'll post it for sure.

It sounds like you might have an oval or long-oval head shape, like me. If you have not seen my video on stretching and shaping, check it out at kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn-Qdn9jp9Kaf8U This will help get the right shape in the cap and it should take away some or all of the red marks. Thanks and good luck!

Yes, I find it varies from cap to cap, sometimes pressure up front like this one, other times some lines from the sweatband like you mention - but those don't seem to bother me as much. Thanks again for your frequent comments!

I’ve seen so many videos like this, but none about the issue I have. The inner band of my 39 thirty hat is all out of wack, making it super uncomfortable to wear and will leave marks on my head. I can’t find any fixes for this issue and I don’t know wear to look.

Can you remove the buckram completely?
@dreinthe616
@dreinthe616 Жыл бұрын
Some prefer to, but that's the material that holds shape in this area. So if you form it as shown, it's the plastic threads in the buckram that are being formed. If you remove the buckram, the structure of the crown will be gone. Again, some people prefer that, but I don't and haven't created any videos on it either.
