Parenting is so hard!!! I feel you, you have to advocate... you do what you can to work with them but when they just don't care you have to do what you have to do. My godson who's autistic finally got changed from gen ed class to his kindergarten special ed class and immediate change and progress was made. He didnt have a bad teacher she js didnt specialize in it and she fought for his needs to be met as well. You got this girl, 1 day at a time. It truly takes a village!

Simple advice from a teacher: some kids backslide from year to year. Change of environment, classroom friends, all of it. Be an advocate for your child absolutely! But don’t go straight to the top or come in too strong. You will be labeled and you don’t want that. You and the school are a team. Your child isn’t the only child with an IEP in that classroom.
@BossMomHustle10 ай бұрын
There’s more to it than what I’m comfortable sharing. We absolutely are supposed to be a team and this year has went completely opposite of us being a team and doing what is best for him so when I feel like he isn’t being treated correctly and they aren’t doing everything possible to help him then it’s time to do more
@BossMomHustle10 ай бұрын
I stand strong on there being GOOD teachers and teachers who don’t care. He’s had both sides and when he’s being dealt with a teacher that doesn’t care then that’s a problem
@heathergains244810 ай бұрын
I truly think it depends on the situation. I wouldn't care to be "labeled" I've had issues with the school and finally pulled my kid out to homeschool.

@@BossMomHustle here’s the hard part. There is a teacher shortage and some classes are not staffed properly or they are over packing classes. Talk with the principal and ask for a change of teacher. Ask who the grade level lead is and who has been there or has more experience. Some of these classes are being filled with long term subs. Normally a long term sub doesn’t even have a teaching credential. There are so many issues right now, it’s almost impossible to serve all students. Go in level and ask to just talk with the principal. Maybe in his annual IEP you can request additional services or therapies. That will be your time to being documentation and to request additional testing. They can’t deny testing if a parent requests it. In the mean time have his hearing and vision tested at his pediatrician so you go in with all your documentation. You don’t want to be held up with those small things. Good luck!

I am a sped teacher. Social worker. And a mama to a 5 year old with autism and an IEP. I agree- because I stand in both shoes. ADVOCATING IS A MUST. But do it with ease. SCHOOLS/TEACHERS DO LABEL PARENTS AND KIDS. And YOUR kid will feel it. So please, BE THAT GOOD MAMA AND ADVOCATE. But professionally and gently. ❤️

Coffee in the morning is my quiet time as well in the morning ☕️ My mom is a teacher nearly 30yrs and she said she’d never go a month without telling a parent that there’s been a shift in behavior in a kid. Great to know you’re an advocate for your kids! Wishing you a Happy New Year 🎆 🎉😊

Thank you! I wasn’t trying to offend any teachers or come across like I’m being difficult. That was the first problem of many. That was a red flag to me that this was happening for over a month and she didn’t take 2 seconds to email me, call or send a message or note home. He started the year great so when I went into that PT meeting I was not expecting to be in there for an hour about all of the things he wasn’t doing and never being made aware

I will always advocate for my kids because they aren’t always able to and when they are struggling as their mom I should always stand behind them and do whatever to help them get through it! I love their school I’m just not a fan of his teacher and after reaching out to the lady over special ed who is very familiar with him she agreed with a lot of concerns I had so we’re hoping to meet in the middle and get him to have a great rest of the year after break! I do everything professionally but if I went into full details of this situation this whole video would be about it and there’s some things I like to share and some things that I won’t always go full details into because it’s my child. At the end of the day if I’m labeled for standing up for my child and knowing the laws I’ll be labeled because that’s my child. I am a very respectful and easy person always but I didn’t grow up with support and I refuse to allow my children to ever feel that way or like they hate school because of how they’re being treated. I can respect and love great teachers that communicate and want to be a team but when that isn’t happening and they are refusing to try things that are suggested by myself and the Special Ed director that’s a problem to me.

@@BossMomHustle hear me, I AGREE 1 million %. My son’s dad and I and my mom are not ppl you want to cross when it comes to him. I just have seen both sides turn ugly. But at the end of the day- I WILL CALL A DUE PROCESS AND HAVE THE SCHOOL BOARD ON ITS KNEES REAL QUICK.

Absolutely!!! I try to be logical and not just say or do something because I’m upset I think of my child and what is the best for them not my feelings. I went the route I did because there was things happening that weren’t being followed for his success and I was guided to do that. When I did reach out to her she agreed that she was very concerned because the director worked with Tank a lot last year and adores him so she said she was glad I was advocating and always loved that I was always open to doing whatever was best for him. I was honest at the same time about my concerns and things that weren’t being done based off of his IEP. I think everything will work out 🙏🏼

Aa a momma w a SpecEd kid(autism and recently added adhd) i thoroughly understand the importance of communication between the aids, teachers, and parent. My kid went through a sudden aggressive moment. They made me aware asap, the following day, another tantrum outside his norm, i got a PHONECALL. So when you said they didn't inform you about any regression or behavior changes w your son for a month!! i was angry on your part. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A GROUP EFFORT. Hope it all works out. You're making the best choices w the way things turned out
@BossMomHustle10 ай бұрын
That was my biggest issue! The lack of communication! I was very upset that I was never made aware! I love communication it is very important to me that I’m involved and can help so that was very alarming to me that she couldn’t take 2 seconds out of her day when it started to reach out to me via phone or the messaging app to express she was concerned. After that meeting she still failed to communicate efficiently so thats when I was directed to reach out to the director of the special ed program to request to have a conversation about his IEP. She is a great lady who expressed some of the same concerns I had so I’m hoping his teacher can get on board and our meeting is successful and we can figure out a solution

As parents, we have no choice because who else will. I pulled my son out of a classroom last school year. Within a month, my son was on the honor roll with the new teacher. In most cases, it's not the student it's the teacher.

The right teacher will make such a positive impact on a child! I remember growing up and the experiences I remember having when I had a great teacher vs one that didn’t try to help you achieve. I’m hoping it doesn’t lean to that because he is fully capable of succeeding but he’s not having the best support currently
