I really appreciate you showing this Andrew. This is the one I ordered. But, I have to be honest, I am very "underwhelmed" by it. I'm sorry but it is very cheesy looking for the price we've paid. With the Lennon boxes, and especially with the Paul boxes, I felt like I was receiving something special. With this, I dont feel that way. Sure, the music, the remix, the bonus tracks will all be wonderful. But the physical set is not. I think they put all their energy into the wooden uber crate and this, alleged, deluxe set was shortchanged. "Super deluxe"? Hardly, in my opinion. Cheers Matt

But the physical product is crap...as Andrew said, the Plastic Ono Box is about the same cost, and Pauls archive sets are only a bit more perhaps. With those you feel like you have a cool artifact. Not great is it. I can only assume the previous lavish Lennon and McCartney sets didn’t make a great deal of money so this is about reducing costs and maximising profits. It isn’t called the music business for nothing! I’d have said £50 would have been a fairer price. There are plenty of other options available so I’ll be looking at those instead. @@Ian_Jules If you're not completely sure about Abey Road, the download from I tunes is only about 30 bucks (or whatever that converts to in pounds if you're in England). The outtakes are awesome, such as a strings-only mix of Something, and a raw take of The Ballad of John & Yoko.

I'm so happy you opened it to show us. It does look WAY better than I expected but I"m still pissed off about the price. It costs $50 more than the last three John Lennon box sets and it's way smaller! I'm sorry but that is a ripoff. I feel stupid for pre-ordering it. I'm not going to do that anymore for any future George Harrison releases but I feel safe in pre-ordering any of the future Beatles and John Lennon box sets. This box set should have cost no more than $90. With all that said (or written), I can't wait to hear the 5.1 Blu-Ray. Thanks again for your review.

It does make me wonder why we all get so sucked in to packaging and presentation of these things! In 1970 records were released pretty much in one singular format....everyone got the same thing. Maybe I’m the only one that would prefer that?

@MaccaLennonStarr I'm glad I decided to do the digital download from I Tunes. If I'd gotten the CDs, I'd have shrugged "meh" and been kind of pissed, based on what I'd seen of it. The content is extraordinary. I did decide to get the 5-LP version instead, and I'm very happy I did. The packaging is beautiful. It was only about USD$80

Hi Andrew. I got my deluxe 5 CD and deluxe 8 vinyl today. The vinyl box is stunning. I paid 165 for it from Amazon and it’s worth every penny. Like you I got the deluxe CD for just under 100 and it is certainly a very nice little box….I just think if it was around maybe the 60 pound mark it would be a fair price. It is certainly over priced. The first CD I listened to was the day 1 demos….absolutely amazing!

I'm glad you liked it after some vacillation. I haven't seen it IRL yet but judging by what you showed us (very thorough - thanks!) I would call it a slightly sub-premium package. Definitely not shabby, but not luxury either (as you commented, a hard backed booklet would have gone down well). I was hoping there might have been an unexpected bonus in there too and think they missed a trick with that - some little surprise bauble would have been nice. Oh well; It'll do.

I would like either to buy the 6 disc set at a more sensible price, or pay the asking price and receive a larger hardback book and packaging. Thanks for this Andrew - I had visions of the 30th anniversary “box” that was just big enough to hold CDs. This looks to be a good - not great - release. Really looking forward to the 8 LP set - although those of us on the west coast of the US have to wait a week or more after the release date to receive orders from the solo Beatles’ shops. Amazon nearly always quote me a delivery day several days after release but almost always still turns up on release day, so hopefully you will. Why Amazon do that though is a mystery, guaranteed way to annoy their customers!

I wish they were consistent in box size and that this was the same size as the Lennon /McCartney sets. I often find that booklets inside sets this size has a print size that is so small that a magnifying glass is needed lol. But I think this set is overpriced by around £30 (current Amazon price is £109.00. Thanks for review. I’ll watch out for the sound quality review.

I am thinking that this set is a little over priced. It is about $130 in the USA and it just seems to lack any bulk or extra stuff. Like you said it falls a little short for what you pay. I don't know what I am going to buy. I have the 8 LP ordered and with two days left I have heard that several records are warped and now I want to cancel my order. Grrrrr!!!

The 5CD+BLURAY set is approximately £122 for us Aussies 🇦🇺 😣 In terms of the physical product we’re getting, I’m feeling extremely underwhelmed and am wishing they put as much thought n effort as they did into the Uber Deluxe Crate. I don’t understand the excitement or enthusiasm for the splatter vinyl, it’d be something I’ll look at once and shelve away, never to look at again, each to their own I guess :) Thanks again for the video 🙏🏻🙂

Got for about $130US plus shipping Same price point as Gimme Some Truth. and Plastic Ono sets and, for me, more new music than either of those.With the POB set in particular, you can end up hearing the same take across 3 or 4 different mixes/edits, which is interesting and comprehensive but I prefer alt takes and unreleased songs, as we get here. Imho, the remix is more substantial here, which adds value, as does the blu-ray if you have a good sound setup!

The Lennon/McCartney and Dylan boxsets are so much better and worth money compared to this. I'm sure the music is great which is the most important thing but I think the 3CD set would probably suffice and be batter value

The prog group Van Der Graaf Generator is releasing in September, a 20cd box set of their earliest albums and bonus material, for about 10-15 Pounds more, so I'll have to pick that over this SDE of ATMP. I'll go for the 3cd ATMP set instead. Thanks for the review.

In other words if you don't fork out £850 for the biggest set you get nowt..... A triple album was unusual in 1970, so it was always going to cost more than a regular LP. Honestly, the value kinda depends on how much you enjoy the music. Is a box worth more because it’s bigger? Fwiw, I think George’s releases typically have some of the best art design for any Beatle product. Here they mostly stuck with the original look, which is good, but the Apple Years Box, for instance, is a work of art unto itself.

When I saw the title of the video I thought maybe you'd got it sent from George's estate. I'm guessing Amazon UK sent it out early in case a lot of their delivery drivers got pinged by the NHS app and would have to isolate, making people's orders late. Although it looks a nice boxset, what you paid is a bit high.

I do wonder if you’re right about Amazon itching to discount - though it’s still on the Amazon site as ‘pre-order’ so I guess technically the pre-order price guarantee stands until Friday even though they actually shipped early. I also wondered if it was just Amazon that had shipped early or if others have shipped too. At least it’s better than the feared cd-sized box set, though I’m not sure the soft back book will survive as well as a hardback. As you say value for money seems to be way less than the McCartney/Lennon sets!

If "value for money" is your main misgiving, I'd see what happens with the Amazon price over the next week or so, and then use that experience to determine whether you pre-order the inevitable next box or just wait until after it's released. Also - completely unrelated, but I couldn't help but notice the Kate Bush remaster box over your right shoulder. Those sets sound fantastic. 🙂

I purchased the ATMP Uber box set and disc 2 has a production error/defect. The error concerns songs 10 and 11 on disc 2 which are reversed although the label is correct. Song 10 is listed as "It's Johnny's Birthday" but it is actually "Plug Me In" running at 11:16 and song 11 is listed as "Plug Me In" but is actually "It's Johnny's Birthday" running at :50. Does anyone else have a disc 2 with the same production error/defect?

Just got my 3 cd set today (Monday) from Amazon, really nice surprise , 4 days early. It’s nice but it’s not mind blowing by any means, so I’m really glad I decided to stick with this 3cd set, that’s enough for me👍🏻. Content and value wise, the Lennon deluxe sets are still way ahead in my opinion!

the problem I have with the Blu-ray audio included on this Deluxe set is that I cannot select a track by entering its number on the remote control. You are limited to use the up and down arrow keys to go to the next or previous song. Do you have the same limitation on your blu-ray player ?

I bought the vinyl super deluxe release yesterday. I wasn't going to get it as although it's one of my top 2 favourite albums (it's that and Rubber Soul flipping between 1 and 2) of all time, I just couldn't justify the expense. However, I managed to get a job at a record shop over the Christmas period and they offer a generous staff discount, so I ended up being able to get it for almost half price and only slightly more expensive than the CD/BD release or the slightly less deluxe vinyl version (this version is 8 records plus a 60 page book whereas that one is only 5 records and possibly a smaller booklet). I've not listened to any of it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. The one thing that I have done though is read the book and honestly, that was surprisingly good. I was expecting a few photos from the sessions paired with the same quotes we've been hearing since the 30th anniversary, but there's a lot of information in there and a lot of revelations about the songs and the sessions. I've read a lot about the making of the album but there was stuff in that book that I'd never seen before. Plus seeing George's original hand written lyric sheets for every song (aside from If Not For You as he didn't write that one), some even have the chords included which I thought was really cool. The one thing I've found slightly odd though is that they've included replicas of the original printed inner sleeves but the records aren't in them, they're in plain white ones with centre holes housed between the replicas. I suppose this gives people the option to put them in the replicas or not. The white inner sleeves to sort of fit into the replicas but they stick out a little at the top. It'll be interesting to see how the CD version compares.

Thanks for showing the box and content. The book could have been better, but at least it's not Cd sized. I find the John Lennon deluxe box sets perfect. But I am fine with the format of this ATMP release. While not exactly value for money I certainly won't cancel my order. I would have if it had indeed been a Cd sized box. And I will still have room available for other stuff. The McCartney archive sets I don't have the space for anymore.

Andrew, I received my Super Deluxe box yesterday. Until I was able to get an unbiased look and create a video of my own, I’ve avoided other videos. Now that I got my first impression out of the way, I’m visiting other videos, and you and I are pretty much in synch. I didn’t consider cancelling my order, but I seriously doubt I’ll be preordering any future George Harrison Super Deluxe editions. For the price, I can’t help feeling slightly disappointed with what is offered with this box (audio content notwithstanding). Feels a bit like all the ephemera eggs where placed in the Uber basket. Anyway, really enjoying listening to the new mix.

Good unboxing. I'm anxious to hear your review on the sound quality of the different versions. I'm leaning toward the 5-CD, 1 Blu-Ray version, mainly for the Blu-Ray. But, like you, I'm concerned the CDs will be over-compressed and brickwalled to death like so many CDs today.

Nice video. Received my package in the US Friday at 5pm local time. I did think it looked a little small at first, but I kinda forgot about the misgivings when I started opening. The inconspicuousness and lack of consuming unnecessary space and materials does feel very "George" to me. The green-tinted trees on the cover reminding us to "Save the World" a little by not manufacturing more disposable stuff. And honestly, the music is a lot more important to me.

Don't forget also, these box sets are very expensive to manufacture etc. If they lower the price I dare say the quality will drop considerably as well. Anyway, good review.

Hi Andrew, do you think that Phil Spector used to have a notice on the wall which said 'If a thing is worth producing it is worth overproducing'? Certainly that is what some artists who worked with him must have thought. But fifty years on Dhani Harrison to the rescue, to make the unpalatable more palatable to a new generation, to partial success. If there was one mistake made with the packaging it was that the CDs should have been housed in an LP sized box and the book with the CDs should have been the hardback book that comes with the full vinyl set. That way whatever the limits of the remix that were set by the original tapes, the new packaging could not be faulted.

I’ll wait to see if the price comes down. I can wait , heck Just this past June I went and bought the sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary if I could wait that long before getting that box then I think I could wait a little while before getting this George Harrison one

It's a really odd decision. I received mine yesterday and the packaging is more akin to the Neil Young Archives II box or the Dylan Rolling Thunder from a couple of years ago. But those were, of course, stuffed with discs! For whatever reason the CD box isn't the main event for this release, whereas with everything else in Beatles boxset land over the past five years it has been. Who knows why. But I listened to the remix this morning and thought it was lovely.

Thanks for the unboxing, Andrew. I also ordered the 5 CD/Blu Ray edition but it's yet to arrive. It looks better in your video than I was dreading but....to quote George himself on SNL when Lorne Michaels offered $3,000 to all 4 Beatles to reunite in 1976, "It seems a bit chintzy." I'm happy for the music contents, but we are definitely not getting value for our money. It's like the miniature Stonehenge monument in "Spinal Tap." $130 - $150 for a little box that is in danger of being crushed by a garden gnome. I paid that for "Wings Over America" which contained countless bells and whistles, and less than that for the exhaustive "Plastic Ono Band." It's a shame that the Harrison estate put all the care and class into the ridiculous Uber box set filled with all that "Wah Wah." Very disappointing, as 'All Things Must Pass' is my favorite solo Beatles album. Happy for the discs of demos and unreleased music, but this will be the last Harrison box I ever buy. Cheers!

I totally agree with what you said. I got the 8 lp set and I this it is better packaging as a vinyl set. The book is hardback and I think better than the vinyl release of say plastic Ono band

Thank you so much for the video. I have ordered this set plus the 8 vinyl set and am torn whether to cancel this one or not. I prefer my outtakes on CD rather than vinyl but I wanted the larger book from the vinyl set. Also have order in for splatter as well. Will probably end up keeping this one but it would be nice to get a big mark down of some sort. Thanks again for keeping us informed. Take care.

I caved in and ordered the ATMP 8LP set for approx £151 (inc shipping and taxes) from Amazon USA. If I were to buy it locally on Friday, it will be approx £235 from the record shop. It was too good of a deal to a pass up on! Only downside is that I’ll have to wait until 16th-24th August until it arrives, but that doesn’t bother me too much. I’ve accepted the fact I can’t get the 5CD+Bluray box set for less than £122, whether I buy it locally or import it. I’m just gonna keep an eye out to see if I can get it cheaper and/or decide on release day what to do. Aussies 🇦🇺 are blocked from purchasing at Amazon UK. I used to get some really good deals back in the day!

The packaging on this might not be the most eye catching. but more importantly is the music from this timeless album and I hope they did a great remaster on this version. I would love to hear your sound system behind you and while a demonstration from the microphone is not like being in front of the speakers, it could still give a good impression on how well it sounds. You would have to use music not copyrighted if you are concerned about music being blocked or other issues. I've not had the same luck as you with the Deluxe All Things Must Pass - It didn't arrive yesterday to add complication I had to change delivery last week to my mothers in N Ireland as I wouldn't be at home but visiting her next week and didn't want a £100 plus item sitting on the doorstep. That all backfired for a 6th August, delivery, but I got a last minute reprieve I cancelled it and managed to get it at £101 to be delivered to NI next Thursday so I got a small saving there. Still remains to be seen if it gets actually delivered on time. But I have noticed even ordinary CDs defliveries are all getting delayed - does anyone know why that is - is it the pinging affecting amazon delivery drivers?

Great video Andrew, I'm glad that you were not too disappointed with this release. I've got the 8lp coming and still have reservations but if what your saying is true then they might have put more effort in on the vinyl?? Box sets have been bugging me lately lol, Bob Dylan's upcoming bootleg release, I got for about 103 quid through pre-order bur it's 5cds with 54 tracks I think, that's just over 10 tracks per disk which is strange seeing as Bob Dylan 1970 had 70ish tracks on 3 disks. And to top that off, Badlands is releasing a 7inch tomorrow with 2 versions of Blind Willie Mctell, one is on this box set, the other is exclusive to the vinyl release. I'm a massive fan of Dylan, Harrison and thanks to you, Lennon 😉👍 but at the moment Lennon is winning in the box set war!

've just quickly ran through the CDs 3, 4 and 5... Honestly I can't say I will be listening to them again in foreseen future, maybe a few songs from the CD5 where they are presented in more or less familiar form. It was fun to listen to George giving instructions to Ringo on "Art of Dying" Take 1 though, but again - this is a product for a particular target audience. The final result - the "All Things Must Pass" album - is a magnificent work (bar the Jam disc). I love it even more now when I see how raw demos can be improved by brilliant musicians and turned into brilliant songs to constitute a brilliant album.

I've ordered the same as you - this CD set and the splatter vinyl. Probably for the same reason, I want all the outtakes and demos but not bothered about having them on vinyl. Im glad youre happy with the CD set but for me its a bit underwhelming and unlike the Paul Archive Collection boxes and the Lennon ones, it doesnt feel like we're something really special. Its a real shame. I have no doubts that the remixed album will be great and looking forward to hearing that. It looks like if Camp George is going to continue to release the rest of his solo work in boxes, they have to do much better. The macca ones are really great as far as presentation goes but not so great as far as extra audio content goes. The Lennon ones however, tick every box (no pun intended) - great presentational content and everything you could possibly want as far as audio goes. Yoko and Sean are setting the standard required and hats off to them for what they have put out so far.

Excellent review. I have to confess that although the McCartney box sets are very nice, they are not my cup of tea. They are just way too big and I think I stoped after RAM to conserve shelf space, now the Lennon box sets are perfect to me, and I was slightly disappointed at seeing the side by comparison of the Harrison/ Lennon boxes. I'm looking forward to listening to the remixes, and the demos, which will be my first time to listen to those. I might be wrong but I didn't see any of the bonus tracks from the previous ATMP reissue like My Sweet Lord 2000 or the What is Life backing track.

I think at times the focus is to much on the size on these box sets when comparing things. Yes the McCartney archive sets are bigger, the books included are better but what do you get audio wise? Most of the time just one Cd with about 8 or so bonus tracks. A dvd that's not even 30 minutes long. As I have mentionted before the John Lennon sets are perfect. Perfect size, lots of bonus music and a beautiful book.

Good video, Andrew. On one hand, this set does indeed seem rather expensive/lacking compared to recent Beatles, Lennon and McCartney offerings, but having said that, this is the only Harrison album I'd care to spend big on, so it almost gets a pass... Given how I don't own the original LP, I think I'll just get the 3LP remix. I'm sure that the demo tracks will be auto released onto KZbin if I'd like to listen to them, and as much as I'd like the book, I can go without on this occasion!
