So if 2D=5H and 5D=2H we can plot dimensions on the Y axis and hours on the X axis to calculate for n dimensions how long the video will be we get a line with the formula D = -H+7, and intuitively this gives the fact that 3D would be 4H, and 4H 3D. The problem with this is that gives a maximum video length of 7 hours at 0 dimensions, and for a 0 hour video we require 7 dimensions. A 7 dimensional game would logically have a video of more than 0 length, therefore it is logical to find a new curve, ideally one that excludes negative dimensions or video length. One curve that fits this relatively well is the positive component of D=10/H, which lines up with our 2D=5H and vice versa, although it does not fit the logical 3D=4H. Instead 3D gives a 3 and a third hour video, which doesn’t sound too bad. The most interesting application of this curve is that a 1 dimensional diplomacy game gives 10 hours, which seems off but, I mean, not impossible. If we accept this curve D=10/H and apply D=lim([H -> inf](10/H)) we get 0, meaning a 0 dimensional diplomacy gives a video of infinite length which could have multiple different meanings, but I’ll leave that one to you. The more interesting effect is when reversing dimensions and hours in the limit because we get the same thing, meaning a video of a game of diplomacy with infinite dimensions would have no length. This isn’t quite intuitive, but when you think about it, if the game has infinite dimensions it would go on forever, leading to the video never being published as the game never finishes. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I was going to suggest an expending turn timer, as 15 mins is for one board quite good, but the more boards there are, the less ideal become the 15 mins. So something like 15 base, and +5 mins for each new board (by this I mean timeline). But a long turn game solves this problem too xD Btw great video, great variant!

One thing I will note is that, thanks to the staggering of timelines, it's almost impossible to interact with the present of another timeline. This means that there is just an exponentially increasing number of games of Diplomacy that, largely, cannot interact with each other. Perhaps you should implement the present line from 5d chess, and disallow any moves in the future?
@KarolOfGutovo2 ай бұрын
Yeah, the lack of a present time seems to be the most major omission when transferring the concept from chess to diplomacy. It'd probably take a lot of effort to recode, but I think it'd be worth it to make the multiple timelines intertwine more easily.

It seems pretty absurd that a unit from Timeline 2 Fall can move into Timeline 1 Fall after that side's Timeline 1 Winter builds have been decided. Either that unit vanishes into the aether or they get a bonus unit, and neither of those seems like an intended result.
