Sparking Zero does a LOT of things really well visually. Things like: warping the models like FighterZ for some supers and/or transformations, and most of the special effects and lighting. BT3 just had so much better camera work and choreography for supers though.

The Sound effects of BT3 are worse, they feel "heavier" or "beefier" because of the poor Quality. Sparking Zero has better SFX but because it's Hi-Fi audio, you need an apropiate Audio Set up in order to listen all the spectrum. An 2.1 setup it's perfect, because the Speakers from the TV are not nearly close to the CRT Speaker from that time. I have a 2.1 setup and it feels pretty heavy, specially the Supers.

If you're curious, the reason why they're like that is that they were shortened to speed up the flow of the game. Especially the transformations, because this game has an emphasis on playing online against other players, so they shortened a lot of the lengthier transformatios. It's probably the most obvious form of griefing you could do by just transforming over and over again to waste time, so shortening them makes perfect sense.

I still think that BT3 looks better tbh. Technically all particle effects models and all that are way better, and sparkling does look cool. But BT3 made you FEEL it. The sound of the hits, the camera shake, the drain on the enemy health. Sparkling is all so shinny and frenetic that all feels like nothing to me tbh. Look at Cell's kame in sparkling, it is gone almost instantly with a flash and an explosion that pretty sure is used for every character in way different power scales and fighting styles just with different colours. BT3 had a bunch of different type and sizes of explosions.

Yall have to realize that there was gonna be some give and take for a game that took 17 years to get a sequel. I’m someone who grew up on the Budokai and Tenkaichi series but there’s people who’ve been born and graduated High School since BT3 released. Super was their primary anime and we know it has much different look, feel, and sound from Z. They also grew up on the Xenoverse series which has a similarly “muted” fighting and sound system compared to Tenkaichi. Plus Online Gaming became a juggernaut selling point games in that same time span and having longer animations for a generations who’s attention spans are shorter would hurt sales. All in all, there’s things I absolutely prefer from BT3 but I don’t think those changes happened in bad faith. It was a genuine attempt to make a new entry that respected the original fans of the series while also attracting to new, current generation who’ve never played it. They are the primary audience now after all.
