We upgrade our van conversion with 5G mobile WiFi internet! In this video, we show you how we installed a Motorhome WiFi 5G Now router and antenna before testing its performance on the road. And oh my it's fast!
Subscribe: kzbin.info...
Watch as we guide you through the installation process we took to install camper van wifi and share tips on how to avoid common issues, like the one we encountered when installing the antenna. Silly mistake, but thankfully we remedied it and you can avoid it.
This is the gland we used: amzn.to/3yvTGqF
We wanted to see if this setup could achieve fibre broadband internet speeds using an EE pre-paid data sim, so went to a few local spots to test it.
This is what we bought: amzn.to/3FkRd6f
With lightning-fast speeds, we hope we'll never have to worry about slow internet again. We are on the lookout for 5G to test the ultimate mobile broadband internet setup, but to be honest the speeds already achieved over 4G are as quick, or indeed much quicker, than the average home fibre broadband - if we find 5G we could be up there with ultra fast. But we will find out.
We bought ours 'second hand' but as new from another van owner that decided not to fit it to his van, but it originally came from motorhomewifi.com. We could really see how this would benefit any heavy user of internet, or anyone that needs a solid fast connection. This setup could be applied to any motorhome, RV or even for Rural broadband due to the technology it uses.
If you've any scenarios, questions or things you'd like us to test or review on our setup please do let us know.
Check out our other build videos here: • Van Conversion Series:...
We have been building and travelling in our Mercedes Vario van conversion for a while now, and always on the look out for ways to upgrade or make it better. With that in mind we'd appreciate any comments, likes or if you'd like to see more? A subscribe. We really appreciate your support.
Thanks for watching.

Morning Guys. That was really helpful - thanks. Glad you thought about the aerodynamics with the mounting position of the aerial - wouldn’t want to increase your tiny drag coefficient!

Nice work and I think your plan B looks an excellent solution. I have a Poynting 4G antenna and Nighthawk router and get some quite outstanding download and upload speeds using EE, somewhat similar to yours. We don't have the benefit of Virgin fibre to the house and, like you, the mobile router was considerably faster than BT fibre broadband. Therefore, we now solely use the Nighthawk at home and in the van. Works out cheaper overall as well as better speeds! BTW, excellent 5G signal at Stratford-upon-Avon racecourse if you happen to head there again this year.

Thanks Peter, it worked out in the end. I like the idea of switching to EE, it would be cheaper and I might see if setting up a repeater in the house could mean we could switch. That’s good to know re. Stratford - very curious about what this can do in prime conditions but in reality this speed at 4g is still great news. This router uses the same processor as the nighthawk. Specs seem very similar, which is good. Thanks for the ideas as always, safe travels 🚐🚐🚐

It’s been good so far. In France the speeds were ludicrous as they’re better networked. The only time it slows, which is to be expected, is at festivals etc but it does its best to compete if that makes sense.

Is it essential to have the docking station ? Could you go from antenna to router ? Just wondering what this does , 🤔 ive got a nighthalk and ariel so yeah no box inbetween , not installed yet yeah just wondering as only just seen this
@WanderbusAdventures
@WanderbusAdventures 5 ай бұрын
In this instance I think yes as the ends of the antenna have a different fitting that inserts into the station but wouldn’t fit the router. I will check this though - the station is also hard wired into my 12v so provides a handy connection point - you could just charge it via a usb c though. I think they’ve done it this way so you can easily dock and undock it, so you could use the router away from the van. You can obviously do the same with your nighthawk, but might want a way to mount it when in the van.

Hi mate I recently bought the 5G Ready Now antenna and just wanted to double check my product wasn’t faulty or missing something, the cable that runs from the antenna, the black and grey one, at the end of it should it have something that can plug into the router as is? Mine currently ends with two exposed bits of metal but I’ve seen other videos with a plug that will go into the top of the router
@WanderbusAdventures
@WanderbusAdventures Жыл бұрын
Morning. So ours came with the docking station and the antenna wires were both black and had push in connectors on the ends. On ours these push directly into the 5G router itself. Do you have the same router?
@romainvicta117
@romainvicta117 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve got the same router, I’ll have to have another look, but the cable that is along the wall at 9:50 is this running directly from the antenna. I’m thinking it’s my antenna power supply but unless I’m mistaken I can’t just plug it in as the two strands of cable just have exposed metal at the end
@WanderbusAdventures
@WanderbusAdventures Жыл бұрын
Ah yes. This is a 12v power supply - it is not directly connected to antenna. So on the other end you should have a power adapter that goes in your router. The cradle with the magnet should have two cables with copper connectors on the end - they look like tiny coaxial connectors.
@romainvicta117
@romainvicta117 Жыл бұрын
@@WanderbusAdventures Oh so the two exposed cables are normal? Or should I have a piece that those two wires go into? Or do they go into the docking port/router that I’ve got provided?
@WanderbusAdventures
@WanderbusAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@romainvicta117 the cable that runs along my wall was for power to the router. It’s not connected to the antenna directly.

I HONESTLY can't think of ANYTHING worse for the health of your brain than sitting in a metal box and being bombarded with 5G signals.. Thanks for sharing your concerns. We understand that people have varying opinions on 5G technology. The system works well for our needs, especially if we have to work from the van. The technology might not be right for others, and that is fine too. Thanks again for sharing.

I think when using this system you really should wrap your head and feet in tinfoil so that the signal cannot transit through your body, I find that standing rigidly upright with a baking tray on my head also helps, this is evidenced by the fact I use 5g and still haven't died, it definitely must be because I took precautions 😂 seriously, calm down and don't believe all the conspiracy theories?..... great video and really useful info, I'll definitely be looking into this system
